Trolling motor problems

I have a Minnkota Maxxum 55# tiller that after not being used for a year is not working right. The battery level indicator on the head will read a full charge but there does not seem to be any power going to the prop. If I mess around with the prop it will start to spin a little but nothing like it should.
Any one have any advice on where I should start looking for the problem?
    Thanks. Mike W

Did you pull the prop to check for fishing line wrapped around the shaft? Also, there is a small pin that sits in a grove on the back of the prop. If the pin is brkoen or missing or the plastic that holds it in place is broken the prop will slip. I hit some rocks with my PD 55 last year and broke that pin. Now I carry a spare prop and prop nut and pin. Can you hear the motor running?

Checked those items. They seem to be all right. Even with the prop off the shaft barely wants to spin.

Mike, you may want to try contact cleaner (or WD-40) in the speed control switch.

The windings in the motor are shot.

I will try the cleaner in the speed control but I think Dekick might be right. There does seem to be a faint rough noise coming from the motor when it does turn. Any idea on what might of caused this. Must of had a leak in the motor casing somehwere.
    Thanks for the help guys.

    Dekick,thats a new one.

The noise your hearing probably sounds like a hum. The magnet is trying to spin but the windings are bad. Your actually hearing resistance. Usually this is a sign of age and the motor has had its life.
