I just purchased the iFinder Pro GPS. Could someone explain the MMC card. The directions say sold seperately. Is this something you need to have? Thanks

The Navionics MMC card is a chip that you can insert into your MMC card holding area of your iFinder Pro GPS unit and your will see the lake you are on at that moment if it is a lake included on your Navionics chip. The #10 chip, for example, has many of the Minnesota and Iowa lakes on them. Last year I went fishing with my son Nate down on Lake Okoboji in Iowa and I bought a Lowrance 3200 Globelmap unit for that adventure. I had a lake map of the lake on my unit with the chip [MMC card] and could zoom in on parts of the lake that I was on. If I wanted to I could punch in waypoints [markers] of where I was fishing and would be able to return to that spot later if I wanted to. While Nate was fishing a tournament I and a friend went bluegill fishing. I looked on a Hot Spots map I had to find a good bluegill area on the map and just followed my way to that area with my GPS using the Novionics chip , threw out the anchor, and we started fishing and caught some really nice gills. Now I am very computer illiterate so to speak and have alot to learn about GPS etc. but the chip [Navionics MMC card #10] sure is nice to have. With a Mapcreate unit [sells for around 130.00] a person can download lakes from a computer CD unto a ”blank” [chip with nothing on it] MMC card to use with the GPS also. With the unit you have just bought you will be able to use the MMC chips both in the boat and on the ice. Guess what my next ice fishing toy will be? I have included a link below to Jolly Ann Marine owned by Wade on this site. He will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have on the MMC cards and on the Navionics chips as he knows alot more about them than I do. All you have to do is send him a pm [private mail] on this site. He sells them and gives free shipping and for anyone who lives outside of Iowa you pay no sales tax. Hope this helps.
Thanks, BillMay 18, 2004 at 12:11 pm #305169You are welcome Bud. Thats what this site is for-helping each other. Even though someone, like me who has alot to learn still, can jump in and answer a question that we know alittle about. – Meaning that ”everyone” knows something that can be shared to help his or her fishing friends on the site. We don’t need to know alot to be helpfull. I guess what I’m trying to say that if we all share we ALL learn from each other. And welcome to the site. I look forward to learning from your sharing about the fishing in your area.
Thanks, BillMay 18, 2004 at 12:43 pm #305176Willy congrats on your new unit. I have one and like it alot. If you have any trouble and I can help just let me know. I’ll help all I can. Best thing I can say now is read read read . Keep the manual with you. Take the unit in the truck ,boat, play with it all you can not just on the water. The more you know about it the better it will be.I went through three sets of batterys before I hit the water but it was cold and the water was hard then. Have fun. Jim
December 7, 2004 at 8:50 pm #330676I have a question. I downloaded maps from my area, and are now loaded into my Ifinder Pro. I CANNOT understand why my gps shows my location to be anywhere from 50 to 200 feet off the road displayed on the map? I am using an external antennae, and have WAAS enabled?!!?!?!?! Anyone know if there’s a certain setup needed in the GPS setup. I tried EVERYTHING, and even called Lowrence, who told me this is normal??!!! Excuse me, I’m no expert, but I know GPS’ with WAAS signal being received should be accurate to + – 20 feet? no? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! Starting to dislike this unit!
December 7, 2004 at 10:14 pm #330691I checked it and that’s where it’s set at this point. I just did a road test and the accuracy was bettter 25 ft. EPE. with WAAS enabled. The real issue for me is the map shows me way OFF the road. I just want the satellite to be adjusted to the map. Any tips? I could attach a screenshot of my GPS if it helps any.
December 7, 2004 at 10:50 pm #330701Bert I don’t know what area you are in or if you are on the water or not. When I put in the hot spots chip I had the same trouble but only on one lake. All the roads were right on target. I found out that when they put the map in it was over 10 years old. I know this because in 93 we had a flood that washed out a road and a new one put in a differant place so when on the new road I was blazin a new trail on the GPS.I beleave the map they used was the one they made when they built the lake 27 years ago and never updated it. If you are going by the EPE don’t it is very misleading. If you want to check out your unit this is how I checked mine. This is only for accurace on way points. And forget about that EPE.- I had someone take my unit and go outside out of my sight and put a quarter on the ground and mark a waypoint for it. Then they brought it to me and I walked out the front door and around the block and came back trying to see how close I could getto it.I could tell you how close I came but you would not beleave me because it is hard for me to beleave it myself. As for cordinating the gps with a contour map it has been my experance that some are on and some are not. I think it depends on how old the map was when they got it.I don’t know if this helped or not . I realy like mine and maybe I can help but I need to know more. PM me and we will see if I can. Need location and weather on the water or not. I can say that when on land in your car your should be able to drive down a 4 lane road on the inside lane and turn around and come back on the inside lane and make two distent tracks on the gps.Jim
