I have been debating all winter long on upgrading my electronics for the upcoming open water fishing session. I think it is time. Just looking for some insight on where is the best place to buy a humminbird 1198 from. I was going to go with a smaller unit but with my bad eyes I figured I better get as big of screen as I can.
    Thanks for any help.

Where to buy depends on a couple things in my mind.

If your tech savvy and can tinker and fix things, and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if you were without your unit for 2-3 weeks if you had to send it in, I would go for the place that is the cheapest. Just make sure you’re getting the current, up to date unit and not an old one.

If you don’t like working on things or going without if it happens, I would go with some type of dealership that sells and installs them and will stand behind the product after the sale.

I’ve been running the 1197’s since the day they came out. Once you have the big screen, hard to look at anything else!

Keep in mind that you really should have the 2″ ball RAM mount if that’s your mounting option. I’ve used the 1.5 and found the small upgrade was really worth it!

I bought my Birds from SBC and had them install them. Installation was almost free. I had an issue with one and they replaced and sent it in-no charge. I was without a sonar/GPS for 2 days. Now that is service!
