What are you using for life jackets when taking yours kids out in the boat with you .

I use the typical child life jackets but my kids complain they are too hot and want to go back in after a short ride, I want my kids comfortable enough to stay out for a while.

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated !

    Thanks Jeff

I think you will be hard pressed to find anything other than what you are using. The vests that are for kids are designed to be over save and that sometimes mean less comfortability. I know my daughter tolerates hers but after a long day she is ready to get this thing off too. The big thing to know is to make sure that it is the appropriate fit for them. Bring lots of snacks

Most youth life vests suck because they are designed to have maximum floatation at the top, that also makes them hot and very uncomfortable,
You can try to find one like this in a womens X-Small.
Bass Pro also has a youth mesh top vest but it has large pockets on the front that seem to get in the way if they are fishing.

My Grandkids (three girls) will stay out all day so long as we catch fish, take a boat ride to cool off, and Papa wears his life jacket.

we always had issues with them chaffing the kids to the point they would hurt. Quick dip in the water would be a good way to cool them down. Got to the point my kids would much rather bank fish than sit in a boat. Much more room for them to do stuff on the bank.

Running with the cabelas brand jackets for them now. Not to expensive for when you need to up date every other year or so.

Sams club has neoprene ones that are about $25. They don’t push up on their chin. By far the best ones we’ve used.

Neoprene is good for not riding up (you can’t get that with a nylon jacket), but it also holds in a lot of heat. I love how my neoprene ski vest stays put, but if I leave it on when I get out of the water, that SOB is hot! I’m not sure that’d be great for all-day wear.

I’ll be following this thread. We’ll need a new one for the little guy this summer. I realize the reason for the floatation collar on infant jackets, but they’re awfully uncomfortable for the kid.

    You might get somewhere by

    A. Letting the kids pick out their own from the store when it is time to get new ones.
    B. Give them a job. My boys are on rod watch (aft) when trolling and debris watch (forward). If they have a job to do they don’t mind a little discomfort.
    C. Keep your trips short when the kids are along is also a good idea.

I have been spending a fair amount time researching kids life jackets and havent decided on anything yet.

I just want it for short boat rides and not trying get them to fish with me, YET!

My daughters have just showed interest in boating last summer at the end we were still into the slow and short rides
