Tried starting the auger today. without success. Took the carb off to make sure all was good and it is. No discoloration or plugging. It’ll start if I pour gas right into it, But not when hooked up to gas tank. Line is open to carb and the vent is cracked open. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you try blowing out the gas line? I would start there Or if you have new gas line just change it out.
December 17, 2012 at 9:27 pm #1121315Do you have a fuel filter on your auger? The filter could be plugged. If not, bad gas line is my guess. Could be kinked just enough that it looks ok but isn’t letting gas through
December 17, 2012 at 9:45 pm #1121324No filter, And gas seems to flow really well. About the only thing that could be plugged would be the screen inside, And I cleaned that really well. Doesn’t seem to be kinked….
December 17, 2012 at 10:38 pm #1121337Not sure what auger you have but could be a clogged jet or the fuel pump diaphragm is shot.
December 18, 2012 at 10:09 am #1121470It’s a strikemaster and I think it is the diaphram. All the holes and Jet seem clear. Is the diaphram the sceen looking one or the rubber one?
December 18, 2012 at 1:13 pm #1121508get a carb kit, it has the diaphram in it. replace everything that is in the kit. you could also try the strikemaster trick, dump out the gas in the tank, put 2oz gas with 2oz JB carb cleaner back in the tank. use starting fluid and get it running. the mix should clean the carb out if it is just varnished up. my guess is it needs a carb kit. gas now days is really bad, goes bad fast and gums up in thoes little 2 stroke carbs

Rubber
December 18, 2012 at 1:38 pm #1121520doubtful… most small engine shops that do any auger repair will have kits on hand this time of year.
December 18, 2012 at 3:31 pm #1121572Add Seafoam and pull off your gas line and drain the old gas from the line and reattach. I take a squeeze bottle bought at the dollar store, and put a little gas-w/seafoam in it. Squirt a bit in until it fires. Let it run until it kills. Then squirt a little more in and let it sit overnight. That should clean the jets enough to get it going. If that does not work, bring it over. I have a 20 year old Strike master that runs fantastic!
December 18, 2012 at 5:45 pm #1121611Chappy I took mine to Nicolai repair in Hampton and he had it going the same day. He is a authorized repair center for that motor. 651-437-4660
December 19, 2012 at 5:37 pm #1121969Man….I as frustrated as a midget with a yo-yo! Put in new gaskets and diaphram and I have the same problem! Won’t start. Pour gas in carb and it’s fine. All jets and everything are open. I can blow thru gas line, But I’ll replace that tomorrow.
December 19, 2012 at 9:45 pm #1122040have you checked for spark? if you have spark trickle a lil gas in the cylinder and put plug back in and try to fire it up, sometimes thats all it needs to get fired up for the season.
December 20, 2012 at 1:26 am #1122117I can dump it right into the carb and it starts but runs 5 seconds and dies.. Just not getting gas from the gas tank…
December 20, 2012 at 2:43 am #1122139The pick up line in the tank in gas? sometimes they rot off,had it happen on a chainsaw. i would check that if you havent yet.good luck

Cracked and rotted fuel lines are a very common problem on small engines these days.

Thanks, but this gas tank has no pick up line. Comes out of the bottom of the tank right into the gas line and right into the carb. No float bowl either….I think I’m going to have to leave it with Mr. Nicolai (Nicolai repair in Hampton.)
December 21, 2012 at 6:17 pm #1122788Sounds lke the best bet. A good small engine guy will get you rockin again.
