Looking for a anchor rope that wont get tangled in knots just sitting there. I have some braided nylon rope that I’v been useing and every time I pull in out it gets knoted up. Its amazing how rope gets knots in it just sitting there. Any suggestions on some anchor line ? I have a 25# anchor and am in 10-20′ water.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Is it braided rope or twisted rope? Twisted rope is usually 3 smaller bundels twisted together. It tangles just sitting there. Braided rope will be much smoother on the surface and more supple. It can be piled on it’s self and can usually be let out without tangling much. I use a 3/4 inch braided rope so it’s real easy on the hands. I wouldn’t go less than 1/2 inch for that reason. More $ though.

I use an extension cord holder (kinda an H looking thing that you can wind cord on) to keep my anchor rope on, I do have to untwist the line once in awhile though.

It braided…3/8 I think. Got it at local tractor supply… I’ll look for some thicker stuff. I bet there’s a difference in braided nylon rope… I have some braided dock line that is Great but expensive $

95 cents at your nearest Mills Fleet Farm.

Mine is 8 years old and starting to look like it’s in need of replacement. I hate to spend the money. Might try to get another year or two out of it.

For smaller anchors I us 3/8 rope. I have a small bag like you would pack your lunch in for work. I just stuff the rope in the bag a foot at a time. When you want to use it, leave a small opening in the bag and pull the rope out a foot or two at a time. It will come out the way it went in. Only pull out the amount of rope you need. Works great for me, never a knot.
Larger rope larger bag. When finished for the day leave the bag open so the rope will dry.

I have been using a double braided nylon. My rope is extremely supple and I have NEVER had a knot or bad tangle. I have a length of 150 ft and just store it in the front storage underneath my Waterspike. When I store my rope I simply layer the rope inside my storage compartment.
The trick here is to always layer the rope so you are pulling it off the top. And don’t worry about coiling it up.

It is used to roll up light duty (orange) cords.
