40 yds 10# backing, 10 colors 12# 832 , and 30 ft leader fit nicely on this Tekota 300. I did compare to a tekota 500 and perhaps that reel has seen many years of use, but it appeared the 300 got to 120 ft out much quicker than the tekota 500 with traditional leadcore. On a 12 ft st croix rod, reading the tip was a sure thing with a #5 crank with 120 -130 ft of 12# 832 out. It was nice to have the smaller compact reel and appearred to have plenty of cranking power as well.

    Thanks Dean!
Do you have any of the new 832 lead core line in stock?

You got 10 colors on a Tekota 300LC? Just making sure this isn’t a misprint. I am currently using 600LC’s and want to downsize with the new 832 leadcore. I want a reel I can get 10 colors on that is as small as possible.

Dean, Why 10 colors? Wouldn’t 5 colors with your 30′ leader get you down anywhere you’d need to get. especially if the new 832 gets 7′ per color. I’m respooling mine this week so I’m interested in your thoughts.

    Thanks, Jason

You are correct, however I did have people ask how much a 300 would hold and was curious myself.

Next time, I will do 5 colors and measure backing for that option as well.

Thanks for the info Dean. Those 300’s will fit a lot nicer in my in floor rod storage than the 600’s. Looks like I’m going shopping.

    FYI part two
    5 colors 12# took 190 yds of 10# hardline backing .
150 YDS of 30# hardline backing on my second reel.
I would estimate similar for 10# mono .
