I absolutely love Rapala DT’s, but I absolutely hate the sure set hooks or whatever they call them. Can I get your guys/gals advice on what size and brand to replace them with on DT 10,14,16’s. Greatly appreciated!

Anything bigger than a 2.5 series lure (2.5″) I put mustad x-short shank #2’s on them. With the x-shot shank you can go up one size hook and not have to worry about the hooks tangling on the cast. But if I can get away with it, I will use regular shank #2’s.

Anything in the 1.5-2.5 series (1.5″ to 2.5″) I put regular or x-short #4’s depending on if they will tangle or not.

I’ve been using #2 Size Mustad® KVD Elite Treble Hooks on my DT14s, DT16s and DT20s

Thanks guys, much appreciated! Are those the triple grips? Do you replace both hooks?

I’m terrible at this. With all the crankbaits of various sizes I own, I’ve stopped trying to buy specific replacement hooks. Instead I’ve just gone to the kits like this one. Sure, I end up not using a few of the over or undersized hooks, but I find it easier to replace hooks with multiple comparisons at my fingertips. You don’t get the best or most customized hook for the situation, but you get the right sized hook which is often key to the crankbait running to its truest potential.

Click on any Rapala lure on their website and scroll down…
they will tell you what hooks are on each lure type/size.
