I had heard this was coming out. What would be the total cost for those of us running the current iPilot including the new lake master chip?

What if you have a new LM version 3 chip? Does it take a different one?

I am sure I will end up getting it someday, but honestly I think that is a bit spendy. I will certainly be waiting until the bugs are worked out. Go ahead and tell me there aren’t any

I bought my 898s ci early this year, I didn’t notice a direct ethernet port on the back, do you have to plug in some cable that hooks up to the ethernet hub?

Too bad it requires the HD Humminbird units with the ethernet port. Anyone who bought prior to 2011 needs to buy a new GPS in order to take advantage of this.

If your unit has HD in the name then it has ethernet. They use a proprietary 8 pin cable and connector, not the standard RJ-45 jack.

Grumble. Now I have to buy a whole new unit. Between Linked and the Hummingbird 360, I’ll wind up with electronics worth more than my boat and motor. Grrr. I just can’t seem to avoid the toys.

Most 98 series SI units are ethernet capable. So the 898 998 and 1198 all are ethernet ready. The 700 series models have to be HD models also. Such as the 788ci HD or the 798ci si HD

YES, the version 3 chips are not going to be capable of running the link. There is a lot of new chips coming out this early fall and those are the ones you would need

If your 1197 is a HD model with a round screw in plug right in the middle on the back, than YES. If it does not have the thread in round plug in the back than no its not ethernet capable.

$930 and the only thing it does differently than my current set up is follow a contour? You have gotta be me!

You can also spot lock a waypoint on your GPS, so you are no longer limited to the 3-6 slot memory on the iPilot. Also you can play back a track stored on your Humminbird unit. This should open up the possibility to create tracks from your PC, save to a card, import them into the GPS, and have the trolling motor follow that track. Amazing possibilities if you ask me.

Eric, quick one for you, now granted i haven’t done any of my own research on this. Yet….

if you have 2 units already networked and want to add the I-Pilot Link, will you have the option to still network the units or is it one or the other.

If you are already using your ethernet ports to connect units together you will need an ethernet hub. It is similar to the lowrance one where there are 5 ports to plug in to. So therefore you can plug 5 units into it or up to 4 units and the I-pilot link.

So you will be able to do both!!

    This looks awesome!

I am wondering if it’s good business sense to limit this technology to HB crowd only. Alienating all the other manufactures seems like they could/would be losing out on a lot of market share? Just thinking out loud.

If you own patents that prohibit other companies from following suit it is a no brainer in my opinion.

That looks pretty good. Has Pinpoint patent ran out so the I-pilot can follow the depth on the graph? I thought mercury bought the technology and never really did anything with it. The main reason I would rather follow the depth on the graph is because I fish the river and the chips never seem to match up with the river very well.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the 1197 is not included in the units that will run the ILink..

Even if its a ethernet capable 97. Unit must end in “8” to be able to run the program.

Does anybody else feel there is a big lag in the iPilot’s GPS adjustments when using the cruise control, auto-pilot, and spot lock? Maybe I have a faulty iPilot, but it seems like with this lag you will drift off the contour a ways before the iPilot tries to correct it. I think I will save my money.
