Noticed lately that terrova will kick out the breaker that is in line with my trolling motor batteries . Seems it is the same breaker ,and happens in big waves when motor comes out of water. Did it yesterday when only running on 7 power setting . Weak breaker ?

The Terrova 80 requires a 60 amp breaker. What amp is yours?

Hmm. Seems it is a 50 amp and I have a 101. Also looks like connection needs is a little corroded and is getting hot increasing amp draw. Do you know what size I need for a 101?

Max amp draw of your terrova is 46, so you are fine with a 50 amp breaker.

    Minn Kota Catalog

Scroll to the very last page. Obviously Minn Kota wants you to spend the $40 on their breaker, but as far as I know you should be fine with a cheaper 50 amp breaker for that motor.

I don’t know about marine use, but in home use breakers and wiring should be sized to 125% of a continuous load. Since 46A x 1.25 = 57.5A I’d be inclined to spend that extra money on the 60A Minnkota breaker and help protect my investments.

Have you checked under the prop to make sure there is no Line wrapped around the shaft – This will cause the breaker to trip as well

Agreed 100% and for what these motors cost, what’s $40 to ensure they run well and have the right breaker on them?

After further checking I think I found the problem and thought I would share. On battery terminal that 50 amp breaker was connected on top of one of the one board charger terminals before making its connectionto battery. This smaller in surface area spade terminal was not not able to handle the full amp draw between battery and breaker termianal which goes to trolling motor. Over time it actually was heating up and leaving carbon deposits which compounds problem by making a worse connection and increasing amp flow. ( see Ohm’s law). It had heated up bad enough to start melting rubber boot the covers terminal. I cleaned up all the terminals put breaker connector first on battery then on board terminal on top ,and dabbed on connections with silicone grease. I think breaker tripping might of just saved a fire. I am not for sure which breaker is supposed to be used ,but I am going to see how it works know as this is how it was rigged ,and would rather be on the side of caution than to put a larger breaker in .

    50a is the recommended breaker for a 36v 101.

    60 a is the correct breaker for a 24v 80.
