Just ordered the 7′ with extra fast tip from Cabelas, showed
up in a couple days but it was jammed into the shipping tube.
Managed to get it out but one of the guides was bent/broken.
They’re sending me another no problem, I’m just more than
disappointed in the reelseat/handle. I have big hands and
this handle just ain’t gonna do. Love the rod and the lite
weight guides guess I’m gonna have to get creative and try
to put on a Tennessee style cork handle, just don’t get
why these companies don’t offer them anymore. They have no
problem putting them on ice rods,,, I’ve caught 10 # eyes
even a 20# cat on a Tennessee handle with no problem.

I’ve had this exact discussion with reps for St. Croix and their answer was simple… very few people wanted the Tennessee handle anymore. Good news is you can go to a custom shop and have them build you anything you want using the blank you specify. Return that rod to Cabelas and get one you want built to order.

Thanks James I had no Idea they had such a service, tried to
buy the Panfish series blank from regular suppliers had no luck.

I didn’t check for your specific blanks but I would imagine you can get most anything they make in a production rod.

Most of my rods are St Croix but my two favorite Gil rods are Fenwick HMG and HMX.
