I-Pilot problem

I was having issues a couple weeks ago where the auto pilot would all of a sudden decide to go the opposite direction. It did this a couple times while trying to fish so I thought it might be the battery in the controller since it is almost a year old. I put in the new battery and the indicator shows that it is almost dead also. I had the spare battery in the boat so I thought it might be possible. I bought another battery and put that one in but with the same results.

When you push a button to start the motor and everything lights up shouldn’t it tell you the battery level or does it only come on when the battery is low?

IC, thanks, I was thinking it was like a cell phone battery indicator.

Try shutting Advanced Auto piolt off so you go to the normal auto piolt. That should cure your Auto Piolt going all goofy. The unit defaults to Advanced mode every time you deploy it and from my experiences its not so Advanced!

I put three new batteries in my remote and still had the battery indicator icon on the display. It went away after a while. Not sure what made it go away.

Dose it jest turn in the opposite direction or dose it spin all the way around on it self?
My I Pilot spins around on it self when ever i use the foot control if i have been using the hand remote.
Minkota has replaced all parts of the system and now they want me to send my moter to there factory to figure out why it wont work.
if you keep having trouble call minkota they will work with you! !! They have been working with me for over 2 years now on this problem. Every time we think we got it fixed it comes back a fue months later and even though the warranty is over they want to make it right.

Thanks for the replys, it would turn all the way around and hasn’t been doing a good job of keeping the cord from wrapping up. It only seemed to do it one day so far. I’ll keep an eye on it and see what happens.

Do you always leave you unit plugged in so it always has power or do you unplug it at the end of the day? Mine has done the cord wrap from time to time and I just unplug the unit and plug it back in and it is fine.

I have the issue once in a blue moon, what seems to cause it is when I have just deployed the motor and hit auto pilot, I believe it comes from the GPS not having enough time to get a good lock.

I have been getting better about unplugging it while it charges, didn’t have any issues today, hopefully tomorrow everything goes well again.

I’ll add to what others have said. My i-Pilot goes haywire occasionally. When it does, I unplug it and plug it back in. It always seems to clear everything up. I guess it’s equivalent to rebooting a computer…

Despite the occasional ‘seizure’, I really love the thing.
