I just ordered my new boat last weekend and I have roughly 3 weeks to decide what graph I want to put on it. I have always been a Lowrance guy myself but now with Lakemaster, Minnkota, and Humminbird being owned by the same company,(think of the possibilities) I am not opposed to make the switch. I’m thinking either the Lowrance HD-8 or the Humminbird 898c. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions would be great. I’m leaning towards the HD-8 but I’m not sure. Please help.

If you go with the Hummingbird you have “lakemaster” chip capabilities, not so with the Lowrance. something to consider..

It’s not a rumor…and rumor has it, the maps look strangely similar to Lakemaster maps…

I put new electronics on my boat last year HDS10 dash and this year HDS7 on the bow.
I also connected them with the ethernet cable.

I absolutely love the set up. I prefer the Lowrance menus and navigating around the unit but that is just a personal preference.

The only suggestion I would make….go bigger than you think you need/want. I was hesitant to buy the 10 but for running and using map/sonar split the 10″ screen is awesome.

Good luck with that! Went through the same thing here. and after much pondering and debate, went with lowrance. We are very happy with it and hoping to get the structure scan soon. Also, the lowrance customer service has been phenomenal.

I had to make the same decision last year. Struggled with the decision for about a year before finally deciding to stay with Lowrance. HDS 8 and HDS 7, ethernet, and Structure Scan. Love the setup. Glad I stayed with Lowrance even though HBird has quality products too. I’ve not had an issue Customer Support like some have reported.
