Father-in-law might buy a hurricane (pontoon on steroids!) with this 2000 year motor on the back end. 1 owner rig and he says he doesn’t think he has 2 tanks through the motor. Thoughts on this motor? Is this oil injected I assume? Loud? Does it idle down for a nice and quiet boat ride tour of our lake? Thanks guys! RR

Not sure about Toon Motor – 4 strokes are AWESOME for that application.

I have seen a 150 Merc Opti pushing a small bass boat 67 MPH.

A Hurricane is a deck boat, not a pontoon, correct?

I had a ’00 200hp Optimax on a previous boat and it was an excellent motor. Although that was a much maligned motor in the press it was fast and reliable for me but I follow the break in instructions to the letter on new motors and allowed it time to warm up each time out, I’m guessing most folks didn’t. It did have that fantastic Mercury growl when idling – not as quiet as my 225 Yamaha. Those motors are meant to be opened up to WOT frequently. For your application it may be a bit loud for putting around the lake but certainly manageable. I never tried to troll with mine so not sure how sustained driving at slow speeds effects them.

The opti is a strong motor… but mine is very loud for putting around the lake.I have the 150 and it is not easy to have a conversation in an 1850 tyee. yamaha is alot quieter at idling speeds.(i have owned both).
