Question on Trailer Hitches

I just got a new truck, and it’s taller than the old one. The ball for the trailer hitch now is higher off the ground. Two bad things happen: 1) The tongue jack doesn’t lift the trailer high enough to clear the ball anymore, and 2) Since the (roller) trailer is at an angle, the boat really wants to shoot off it at the launch. The ball mount I have has a 2 inch drop. I’m thinking I need a ball mount that has a 4 inch drop. Is there some rule of thumb here or any ideas on how I should measure this out?

    Thanks guys.

pull the truck up to the old trailer and crank the trailer to level. Measure the drop needed. Should pull clean.

If all you need is 2″ more to level your boat while hooked up to your truck then you are right you need a 4″ drop, but you may need a 6″ drop to be able to jack your trailer high enuff to get on the receiver ball.

You may want to look at the B&W tow and stow. Spendy but you can get it in the most drop you would need and adjust it for every trailer you pull

You want to measure from top of receiver tube on truck to ground, then with trailer little above level measure from bottom of trailer tongue to groun. Take truck measurement and subtract from tongue measurement and it will give you the ball mount needed. You have any question or need parts call me at 641-456-2180. I work for redneck trailer supplies. We have a store in Iowa and St Cloud,Mn
