Anybody have any experience with this? It is the one that is spring loaded(flips up when going fast, flips down when going slow) I am looking to add it to my 4.3L MercCruiser. I am hoping to slow my troll at least to a speed where cranks can be trolled. Anybody have problems with the plate being pulled into the prop when reversing? Any info would be great!
    Thanks,

My dad has the kind with the wings on the side and a release cord to let the plate down. The plate and wings cracked right around the springs after one season. It does work wonders for slowing the boat down. We can get the boat to about 1/2 mph. The plate makes boat control very hard in any wind. Slight turns usually require a good bump of the throttle. I would recommend putting the plate on. The wings help the boat plane out and the plate comes in handy for trolling. The spring loaded model seems like it could get in the way when back trolling or loading the boat.
