Here is a question for you guys that use the round type Lowrance GPS module.I have a dual console boat. Can I mount the module on the inside of the windshield on the dash and still get strong enough signals? Directions say a clear, unobstructed view. Thanks for the help.

Mine is mounted on the top of my console inside of the windshield and I have had no problems. I have a friend who has two mounted there and no problems. I have a locator mounted and then my GPS mounted a little higher up and behind the locator to the left and the puck is mounted behind the Gps and works fine.

    Thanks, Bill

You won’t be able to lock in on all of the possible satellites if part of the field is obstructed by anything. Depending on how many satellites are being blocked, the accuracy of the GPS unit can be compromised.

So the question is…How accurate do you want or need to be?

Ryan, the windshield itself will not interfere. Mounting it higher than the LMS 480 might be helpful depending on how you have it all set up. We’ll test ‘er out this weekend.

Let me know how it works. Is your windshield tinted?

I’m thinking of using Velcro to mount it inside the dash. Less holes to drill.

My GPS puck is siliconed [glued] onto my dash.
    Thanks, Bill

I’m going to play with it next week-end to see how it works.Move it around and watch the GPS signals.Have my hand- help under the windshield and it picks up signals just fine. Thanks for all the help.

I know of several around here who are mounting their reciever with velcro to the dash. Then they take it off the boat and use on their pick-ups for ice fishing and getting home from the bars in a fog.

I put a lot stuff on my dash so it wouldn’t be a good idea for me to mount mine there.

I usually mount it back near the stern. It takes less pounding there. Occasionally someone will sit on it and I lose the signal.

I know the game wardens will pick you up if your boats windows are tinted to dark

Hey Wade, Looking forward to the package. (LCX-15) Now I just need a boat to mount it on.
