    Hey Guys,

I’m looking to install a few sections of track in my boat. If you have tracks mounted on your boat, what brand are they and what do you like/dislike about them? What are some of the more popular brands out there?

    Thanks,
    Drew

I would highly reccommend trax tech. It’s a great product with a lot of options. I have it on my boat and have zero complaints. It can get spendy tho, but in my mind is worth it if you troll a lot. Bert’s is a competitor but IMO trax tech Is the way to go

What type of boat are you going to put them on?

I put them on my 2012 Alumacraft Competitor 175 tiller and love them! I looked at berts, cannon, traxstech, and a few other brands and went with traxstech. The traxstech has a heavy peen shot finish so the finish is very durable and wont show scratching like others will. Also they seem to be a bit cheaper then the others. I went a 3′ section on each side twords the back and a 18″ section on each side twords the front and have a couple 12″ sections yet to be mounted.

From brand to brand the accessories seem to be universal. I have some traxstech, cannon, and berts accesoories that all mount into the tracks.

I attached a couple pictures, please ignore the fish its all I have for pics on my PC right now. I can post more if you want.

Haha funny – I will actually be mounting them on a 2012 Alumacraft Competitor 185 Tiller. It is good to know that they will work nicely with that boat. I was thinking of going with a similar setup. 36″ tracks towards the back and smaller tracks in the front. What bases are you using to attach the rod holders? Is it the 5″ C-clamp base by trax tech? I’m going with Folbe holders, but would imagine that they can be mounted to the same base.

I went with the Traxtech 6′ on my boat. The sizes and thickness are the same as Cannon and Berts so they will fit all those competitors add-ons. My reason for choosing Traxtech was based o the finish on the Aluminum, Traxtech has a “blasted finish and the rest are a polished. My thought is the polished will show scratches and nicks easier that the rougher Traxtech finish.

I love them and will be moving them to my new boat, whenever that may be…

Mounting the tracks I did not use the supplied bolts because they are for thru bolting. I opted to drill and tap the gunnel and had to use 3/8″ long bolts on the outside otherwise they will hit the crossmember in the gunnel. Also used allen drive bolts instead of phillips so you can get them alot tighter and ofcourse locktite.

Also the tracks are a bit wider then the gunnels so they over hang the inside by probably 3/16″ or so.

For my rod holders in the tracks they are just scotty brand for now and I used a couple berts adaptor plates “MF2974” but at what they get for those I only bought a couple to get me going then made the rest of them.

I plan on getting some pedestal bases for my folbe holders and doing the same. I did how ever put the folbe flush mount bases in the back corners of the boat. You can see that in one of the pictures.

Another thing is if you plan on putting a vantage on, now is the time to think what side you want. The stock wiring is for starboard side but I had the dealer wire it for the portside and really like it on this side instead.

If you want to see more pictures or if your in the north metro feel free to swing by and see how I have rigged my boat.

I just ordered my boat from LaCannes in Faribault, so I do not have it in hand yet. I know rigging a new boat can be fun and rewarding, but they are going to do all the initial rigging for free. I would guess that they have already rigged boats with this type of track, but will pass along how you did it just in case.

Are the edges sharp? Any worry of getting your clothing/gear caught on the edges?

I do have plans for a couple of flush mount bases in the rear of the boat. I have not quite decided where I am going to place them yet though. The Bert’s adapters seem like they will work just fine. Just out of curiosity, why use pedestal mounts in the tracks instead of flush mounts? Is there a usability difference? I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

I am actually going to go with a 9.9 kicker + troll master. From what I have read, the 90 does not troll down quite as nice as the 75. I don’t really want to resort to tossing out drift socks each time I want slow things down a bit. It will be mounted on the port side though, like yours.

I probably would never have thought of that. Good to know!

I did a bit of an article on the Trax Tech rails last fall. They’re an impressive product. Article Link – Trax Tech.

I’ve not tried any of the competitor’s offerings to give any comparisons but I know I’ll be looking at adding tracks on all my boats going forward due to the durability and flexibility offered by all the accessories.
