Craftsman Lawn mower Question

I bought a 2006 model DYT400 Craftsman mower and the engine cuts out when the blades are engaged when I put it in reverse. Works fine when it’s not engaged. In online chat rooms on the topic I’ve figured out that there’s a button or switch that needs to be activated to go into reverse but I have no idea where it is or what I need to do. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

not sure on your model but on my dads caftsman the key has two different running positions. you have to be in one our the other for it to cut in reverse.

Sounds like that MUST be it.. I’ll have to check it out when I get home tonight.. Thanks for the responses. I about freaked out when it first happened thinking I had some major issue.

It is…middle position on the key, and push the yellow button.
