Looking at a boat with a 150 E-Tec. The motor is do for its 3 yr service (not even close to 300hrs yet) Is this something that needs to be done? And if so what is the cost to have the service done? I live just south of Minneapolis

That is a good question to be asking before you buy. I have a 90hp Etec that is due its 3yr/300hour service and from what several dealerships tell me it will depend on what work needs to be done based on the EMM computer reports. I am bracing for up to $600 although I am told it probably won’t come to that. Ask around dealerships as the 150 may cost more since I have a 3 cylinder and that is a 6 cyl engine.

I just had my older ficht motor tuned up at a dealer and they were showing me all the recalls that are out there for the newer e-tecs mainly the larger motors so checking with a dealer might not be a bad idea for some of the work that might need to be done could be covered under one of the recalls.

If it doesn’t need spark plugs, and it doesn’t sound like it should if the hours are low, EMM update and fuel filter are the minimum you should do. I would think 150 would cover that. New impelled may be a good idea as well.

Is it a major thing to change plugs on one of these ??? Seems like something simple that is getting alot of air time around here lately ???

yeah changing spark plugs I thought I could do. But from what I am told there is something they do to them when seating them

buy xtra plugs at fleet farm/napa etc. they need to be indexed to the cylinder pin. open side of tang needs to get hit by the injector spray.

taking in for service, you only pay for six, but the bill will make them look like they’re made out of solid gold.

the 3 years/ 300 hour b-4 maint is spot on, you’ll have her in for repairs way before then!!

i have an 04 75 tiller, could have bought some nice electronics over the years since i’ve had it, but for some reason i keep repairing it.i have one of those luv/hate relationships with it. absolutely awesome when working, tough on the pocket book when not.

have somebody u trust go over the diagnostics, don’t touch it if injectors have gone out multiple times, starter motor repairs etc..read up on the etecownersgroup web site. it’ll put your mind at ease or make you run for the hills.
