I have +/-$600 to spend on a gps and a locator. I am tending to shy away from the combo units. I would like to get some of your opinions on what units to go with. I am going to Cabelas this weekend, because I have $550 saved up in points. So I have to buy there (sorry Wade). I have mainly been looking at Lowrance, Eagle, and Garmin. Please Help!!!!

The Garmin GPS162 and the Garmin 240 locator would put you in the ballpark for price. I have two of the 240s plus the 188 Gps/sounder units on my boat. Although I usually run the GPS full screen, by adding a second mounting station I can run the 240 with the 188 transducer. This allows me the freedom to move the 240 between the consol and stern. Check out the many options Garmin has to offer. The Lakemaster Pro pre-programmed chips for the Garmin are also a sweet option.

You might also look at the new Garmin 250, which has a higher res. screen. Like Don said, the 162 is a good option for a GPS in that price range. If you decide to go with a combo unit, look at the Lowrance LMS 480M.

Has anybody out there used Bottom Line locators. The 480max seems to be a nice unit for a great price. What do you think?

I used the Bottomline 210 Tournament Master a few years back. A very reliable unit.

Boy did I do complete turn around this weekend. I went against everything I said I was going to do. I bought a combo unit. I bought the LMS-330C. I just fell in love with the color, it seems so much better to look at at all angles. So, what do you guys think. Do any of you have any experience with this one or the x-100c? Thanks.
