I got a buddy who bought a new boat a month or so ago. This weekend he told me the boat was delivered to the dealer with a pick up pulling the boat. It got my wondering was is the normal, so he bought a new boat and trailer with the trailer having 500 miles on it.

Are you sure it wasn’t just dropped off at a freight yard? Somewhere that they had a crane, lift or other way of taking the boat off the tractor/trailer…

Either way, 500mi is only 2 trips to and from Mille Lacs or about 3/4 round trip to LOW. In the life of the trailer it is a grain of salt.

It would seem odd that a PU would drive 1000 (return trip too) miles to deliver a boat. Factor fuel and employee wages into that and its a hefty sum for a delivery fee.

Many new boats sold in the spring, were at the manufacturers show in respective States or it could be from another dealership they own in a different area. Just guessing

My dealer routinely drives to pick up boats if he is only going after one boat. He said it was about 1/4 the cost to drive down and trailer it back rather than having it shipped via semi.

My local dealer gets a truck load at a time. Maybe 5 boats/trailers on a semi trailer riding piggy back

I pick up boats at New York Mills both Lund and Crestliner and can haul four to five boats depending on size. Sometimes we drop all boats at one location in the cities and the dealers come to pick them up with trucks so the customer can get in faster. Also Ive seen were the boat is delivered on a boat trailer and the boat is taken off and put on another boat trailer that was delivered in a group, then the guy that dropped off the boat heads back up with empty boat trailer to New York Mills to pick up another boat. There always just trying to get the boats out as fast as they can. Hope this helps
