I’ve been using Sufix 6lb elite hi viz green for crappies and pitching jigs for several years, and I’ve crowed about it so much, they should be paying me. After today, I’m so upset that I’m lookin for another line. 3 times, while casting a spinning reel, you hear the knot form and come off the spool WHILE casting. I don’t understand how it even has time to do that. Anyhoo, my requirements are pretty simple. I need something nice and limp for crappie fishing mostly, and that’s the thing I liked about Sufix; the 6lb casts like 4lb, has the strength of 8. So that’s what I’m looking for. It also needs to be hi viz, and needs to be mono. I may try Stren again, as it’s been a long time since that stuff left me high and dry. Any other suggestions from you folks??

I’ve been using the Sufix Seige in hi vis orange this year with good results. It seems to be holding up well and hasn’t given me any problems.

The Siege is 15x more abrasion resistant than the Elite, so it doesn’t cast well for crappies. Been down that road, but I do thank you for mentioning it. Sure is great stuff for fishin in rocks though….

Are you having problems with it coiling up at all? Spinning reel?

I use Sunline Natural, works great and is very strong and durable!

Have to admit, never heard of Sunline. Can you tell me more about it?

Just ran across some Berkley Sensation in a solar color, bright orange. Does anyone have experience with this line? I may try it regardless, but for some reason, and I can’t figure out what, I’ve always been apprehensive about Berkley monos. Love fireline, but never used much mono from em.

I’ve used the Sensation in orange this Spring a lot for walleyes and pitching. It’s okay, for me. It doesn’t seem as supple (almost stiff) as Sufix or the Cortland Hi-Vis. And of the three–Sensantion, Sufix, and Cortland–I will be going back to the Cortland because two things: smoother line off the reel when casting and less stretch.

I know several guys that love the Sensation though.

Just a personal trial and error thing…nothing better than buying more stuff!

I haven’t had it on the water yet but I’m trying the Northland Fishing tackles Bionic line this year. It spooled up good. And I got sold on the the 7# test.

Brian, I suggest you respool with some fresh Sufix…The line thats been wonderful for you didn’t change. Something happened to whats on your reel…line twist maybe?
I go thru a LOT of line guiding and have tried ( and continue to try) them all. All mentioned are good lines…
Cortland Endurance (if you can find it) is superlative, but the Sufix, Sunline and Pline CX are very good. Sensation can be a tad stiff in cold weather for me.

We do deal with quite a bit of line twist as we cast hundreds and hundreds of times. I’m a big believer in taking everything off your line, letting it out behind the boat or in the wind and ‘spinning it out’. The problems here are that this is not a new instance, and it wasn’t on the reel very long. Has me wondering about their quality at Sufix with all the issues I’ve been having recently.

I get more line problems when using lighter lures. The biggest influence is myself becuase I get all comfortable with pitching and forget to ensure that there is no loose coil on the reel. Furthermore the line twist problem is just part of the spinning reel mechanics. After several casts, the line twists will continue to build up. Then when I least expect it, there comes a bird nest or wind knot. Ideally I should check my line twists by pulling some line off the reel at the end of my casts to see and also check how much my jig spins dangling from the rod tip after I reel it up. Most of the time just holding the line and reeling it back up is enough to clear the line twist. Sometimes the line needs to be stripped off. Sometimes it’s the fault of the reel itself. The line roller doesn’t function and you get more line problems. Sometimes I get line problems in about two dozen casts. Sometimes not a single line problem in the entire day of fishing. The only difference was different reels.

As for 4-6# lines, I prefer something a little more stiff because I don’t want the fish to tie knots in the end of my line. I don’t fish Hi-vis lines so the most visible line I have is the flourescent blue stuff like the typical Stren line. The line I’m using is ASSO Flourolight and Tetramax.

I just use the stren myself. Closing the bail by hand solved 95% of my problems with line twist.

I might be old school, but I prefer Berkley Trilene, either XT or XL when using mono. Have strayed a few times, but always came back to Trilene.

If you go back into the archives…Berkeley(Solar Green) XT RULED the IDO Walleye boards (before IDO ) But alas…they discontinued it…to bring Sensation onboard…There have been different formulations over the years…but Sensation is still a popular Hi Vis line.

Guess I have used most every hi-vis mono made through the past few years. Seems like they all have some plus and minus factors. I have also learned first hand that very few fisherman agree unanamous only any line including hardlines or mono.

There are some darn good tips mentioned for line management to enhance performance. Line conditioner and larger diameter spools have been a major step forward in helping out with mono friendliness, especially for us that fish in cold weather.

Agree, and this is something I’ve gotten in the habit of doing. Not helping with this Sufix though. Thanks for the all the info guys, looks like I may try a few different ones and see what happens. At this point, I guess that’s where I’m at after having continuing problems with the Sufix.

I like the 8lb Sensation on my spinning rods, P-Line on my baitcasters.

We have just started to carry some of the sunline product here at SBC. We have been hearing good things from the bass guys using it.
