Mounting the new Electronics

I’m undecided about mounting the 1198 on the dash and the 998 on the bow of a Lund Tyee?

The RAM 2.25″ Diameter Ball Mount with Short Socket Arm and the swing arm brackets both support 15-lbs and are as sturdy as anything RAM makes I believe, at least that’s where the indicators are leading me as well on my two new investments the 1198 & 998.

The other 2 options that I’m thinking of are the Johnny Ray mount 205 or 206 and the Stabil-Mount. I’m still undecided at this point.

The Ram seems so massive for the bow and the dash.

Stabil needs to be set correctly from the beginning on the dash, I’m thinking it will not suit me for the bow.

Johnny Ray is the best for quick removal and swivel but may not support the units. I think they would as much as any of the others though in reality.

I don’t have the ole~girl home yet to see how things lay out on her. With the warmer weather though coming through the next week I’m getting the itch to get her out of the wintering cave.

    What are your thoughts?

I mounted my 1198 and 958 on stabil mounts. I couldn’t be happier with them. Why don’t you think one will work on the bow? Every ram I have owned moves over time. Even the 2.25 ball over time will wear and start moving.

    Thanks for the reply dgoodman!

Why not on the bow you ask?
Well for me I don’t want it mounted on the floor.
I don’t want it mounted such that it would rub on my now to be 2 year old cover (used for traveling) and I want them to be fairly easy to be removed.

Am I overlooking something? I hope so, Stabil and Jonny Ray are looking to be my first choices, I was thinking that ram mounts were massive, bulky, and intrusively ugly. But that’s just in my eyes.

Teach me? I’m looking for the neat set-up! What ya got?

If you don’t want it mounted to the floor how are you thinking about mounting it up on the bow?

Here’s a few pictures I snapped of the 1198 and 958 mounted on my stabil mounts. I measured the distance from the floor to the top of the mount with the electronics disconnected. It measured 4 1/2 inches. So if you have 4 1/2 inches to spare from your floor to your cover your golden.

    1198 mounted

    1198 disconnected

    958 connected

    958 disconnected

If you have any questions just reply here. I like how easy the stabil mounts disconnect but at the same time they are rock solid.

    Pretty sweet installation there d!

Denny, I have my console unit (997) on a big ram, and my bow unit (1197) on a Johnny Ray up on the same platform as my Terrova. I dont have any pictures of my installation, but I can take a few next trip out for you..

    reddog,
When might you be able to post the pics of your setup?

Do you feel there is any issue supporting your units with what you have?

By the way, which model number Jonnie Ray mounts are you using?

These are the only pictures I have for right now. Wont be back to the boat til next Thursday.

This is with the 1197 on the console and the 997 on the bow, which I have reversed now. No issues whatsoever with the way I have things.

Do you know which model number of a Johnnie Ray you have? Did you mount the 1100 series on it at the bow?

I was leaning towards the JR 205 for both of them, but still unsure. I here the voices in my head, ” think long think wrong”

And I still like the Stabil mount as well.

I dont think the 205 will have enough “raise” for you in a dash application.

Buy 1 205 and try it on the dash. if it doesnt work, then go the Stabil or Ram direction. If it does work, then you can readily buy the second 205.

I may switch my bow to a 205 also.. its a couple inches higher than what I have now.

I’ll find out rather soon, got to just take the big girl (1198) out and see how and if it will fit just by setting it on the old JR 300 (as I remember) I’ve got that mounted my old 987cSI.
That will tell me whether I will need to set it in a forward tilted configuration or not.
