Thanks Ryan! That’s good timing. I ordered 4 Mitchell Avocet Gold Reels that should be in this week. I loved using the Berkley Rods last season and I’ll provide a product review on the Avocets after I’ve been able to to put them to test.
Hey Ryan and Wade, I’m a little late…but I just saw it on CNN! Wade’s rods are in!
Seriously, what’s the differance between this series and anyother Berkely rod. (you know my wife doesn’t let me out much)
Brian, I’m thinking Ryan knew I was needing my new rod fix soon!
I’ll let Ryan do most of the explaining but these are IM7 rods that perform well and your wife won’t put you in the dog house for buying one. You can get one for around $55. I started using Ryan’s last year and loved ’em. I ordered 4 for myself. Here’s some info: Berkley Rods… I’m gonna run Mitchell Avocet Gold Reels on all four. The Avocet Gold has 8 ball bearings for under 40 bucks. I talked to a guy I could trust at Pure Fishing and he said these were great reels (he tested them himself).
I can’t wait to get out there!

umm in my case…she might let me out?
Thanks for the links Wade. Can you fish with more than one rod in IA?
I’m hoping that it’s going to happen this week…getting out (fishing, I mean). I’m getting tired of turning on that Lowrance 480 and it reminding me i’m still in the garage.
Have a good Easter bunny…opps..typo.. buddy!
BrianK,
Yes we can fish with 2 rods in Iowa.
The Lighting Rods come in a IM6 for around $20-25.
The Lighting Rod Pro Series are a IM7 for around $45-55.
Gary Roach designed them for the walleye series.
Hank Parker and Ken Cook for the bass series.
Buzz Ramsey for the salmon series.
Purefishing is a great company located in Spirit Lake, Iowa. You see alot of anglers in Iowa that use Lighting Rods with very few negative comments.

Dinosaur helped me pick out a couple of these at Joes sporting goods last week. Got to try them out over the weekend and was happy with how they felt. The 6’6″ medium is what I picked up. Paired up with a couple of capricorns and it is a nice combo for a little over $100 bucks.
I’ll second that the avocett’s are good reel’s for the money. I just got mine last week and got a chance to try it this weekend, and it performed well. I’ll also say that the berkley lightning rod’s are an excellent mid priced rod. And there made in the midwest, which is good to!
Just picked up a Mitchell Avocet Gold reel last night at Fleet Farm. They are on sale for $25, with a $5 rebate. A very smooth 8 ball bearing reel for $20!!! Combine that with a reasonably priced rod you can get a nice setup for around $50!
