So with the rain, sleet, ice, and snow this past weekend, my wife thinks she needs new tires. I stepped into the garage to take a look see, I have to agree. So I am looking suggestions for an AWD midsize SUV. The tire size needed is P235 65 17. I want a quality tire that won’t break the bank.

    TIA,

Without hesitation, I would highly recommend the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor. I’ve had those babies through the worst of it in SD and in Northern WI. On dry pavement they are quiet. Goodyear on Onalaska beat Sam’s price by quite a bit. Since purchasing them, I’ve talked to others that have them and I have yet to hear nothing but praises. Good luck. I did this 3 yrs ago and did a ton of research.

I have Michelin LTX A/T 2 on my truck, sticks like velcro in the snow, quiet when it is dry.

I am recently of the opinion winter tires/wheels would be a good idea on a passenger vehicle. Its not like spending twice as much money having two sets of tires since you are halving service life. I am seriousy thinking of doing this on my wifes vehicle. The current winter tires out there offer 5-20% better traction on slippery surfaces. I will always go with bigger lug all-terrains on my truck.

I agree withnthe hancooks. Great tire, I run them on my plow trucks only problem I see would be tire life its more like a 30k tire not a 50-60k tire

I looked at a lot of tires last year for my Sequoia. I almost got the Hankooks. I ended up with the General Grabber HTS. I have been happy with them. I still think the Hankooks look great. I might give them a shot next time.

My buddy put Michelin LTX A/T 2s on his Tahoe about the same time. He likes them, but they cost an arm and a leg. I decided to save a few hundred bucks on the Generals, and I am happy I did.

Imho, nothing better than winter tires, I’m 100% the saved us an accident last winter, no m/s tire will compare to a real winter tire, if you really want safety and performance its the way to go, put some on our Rav4 and it’s darn near unstoppable in snow ice and get new summer tires later take the snows off and you should get 3 seasons or so out of them. Seriously best money you’ll ever spend on tires. Currently were running blizzacks (sp?)

I ran through several sets of firestone transforce ATs on my trucks and they did well. This time around I switched to the Goodyear Wrangler silent armor, so far I have been impressed with them but we haven’t had much winter yet.

I decided to move away from the transforces because I wasn’t getting the treadlife I used to so I think the quality has dropped off a little.

Check out tirerack.com, they have tons of reviews out there on about every tire you could want.

I ran Bridgestone Revo 2’s on a couple of trucks I have had, and they were the best tires I have run. They don’t last as long as many tires. I would get about 45k out of them. I needed new tires a year ago, and tried to buy another set of revos, but they were back ordered for weeks in the entire metro area. I ended up with firestone transforce and they are fine and they look like they will wear pretty well with 25K on them in the last year, but the traction is not as good as the Revos, and the ride is rougher as well.

x2 on the Michelin LTXs. At 40k, should get 80 on them and nary a problem on the burb… on my third set with the truck at 300k.

At tirerack.com you can see what a larger population of people with the same vehicle have experienced with the tires you are interested in, in similar climates, driving style, etc. (Click on the “Reviews” tab for people’s comments.)
