Can you tell what this is for?

I thought I had a pretty good idea and I wanted to share it with the IDO community, but first I wanted to know if anyone can tell what it is used for, or if you have one yourself.

In case you can’t tell from the pic, it is a 1/4″ bolt secured to the console.

Use it as a mount for your camera? I think the tripod thread on the bottom of a camera is 1/4 inch.

Otherwise I’d stick something big and round on it, I could see losing your balance and harpooning yourself on that thing.

Bungy cord to the steering wheel for auto pilot. I would try it at wide open throttle to make sure it works well.

Although Halloween is approaching and a pumpkin/Jackolantern would be fitting for the season…

I’m going with a holder of the operators left eyeball after they hit a submerged tree or a sandbar.

Mounting bolt for a handheld light. Screws into mounting stud in the handle of some of those lights.

Okay, maybe it wasn’t that hard to figure out, but I did enjoy reading the other responses.
Sometimes I don’t think about safety, so I appreciate the all the comments regarding how easily I could get poked.
I’ve been brainstorming all morning about how I’ll cover it when not in use. I’m sure I’ll come up with something. Maybe I’ll even get a shorter bolt.

    thanks for playing my game!

Poke a hole in a tennis ball and stick it on top when not in use

I would shorten it consideable because there a good possiblity that your buddy could tighen it to far and crack the camera. after shorting I would add another lock nut as a snubberto protect even more and give you elivation off the dash

Put a cap nut on it to cover the sharp threads on the end. Maybe shorten it a bit and cover the rest of the threads with small plastic tubing.

My guess was going to be a eye ball holder to.

Would a back up nut on it be practicable to? You could use it to lock the camera at different dirrections.

How about you just screw the camera on every time you use the boat? Then you won’t have a excuse when we start ragging you for photo’s.

That is a terribly dangerous thing to have in a boat. If you have kids you are just looking for trouble. There must be a more out of the way place to mount that bolt so you don’t have the accident potential but the camera still functions.

A wing nut put on backwards works well (so the flat face butts against the bottom of the camera).

I’d get rid of that and get an inexpensive tripod like the gorillapod.

Remove the longer shaft and use one about 1″ long, add a 1/4″ threaded coupling and whatever lenght of threaded rod after that you need.

You can unscrew the top part when not in use and only have a shaft that sticks up a inch. Maybe?
