I just bought a 55lb minn kota auto pilot. It has a 60″ shaft and I have a 14′ boat. It looks kinda funny and I read that you can shorten them. Has any body tried this and had any luck?? Has any one used a 55lb on a 14 alum boat? I have an old crappy 36lb bow mount on right now. I like to hold in high current so Im hoping this extra juice will help me on battery life. Any input would be appreciated.

No problem just be careful of the wires with your hacksaw and line up the bolt hole at the top when you drill a new hole. Take your time and think it thru, I have done it more than once. Good Luck!

Easy fix, I use a pipe cutter so I DON’T cut through the wires. Take your time, you can do it!

I shortened my PD using a pipe cutter and it took about 15 minutes. measure 3 times and cut once.
