I travel a bit for work, and need to pick up a versatile travel rod I can take along. I like the looks of the St. cCoix options. I’m leaning towards a 6’6″ ML model because I know I could throw a spinning reel with fire line on it and be in business. But I also want to be able to use it in saltwater from shore — women can sit on the beach forever, but I can only sit still so long.. Should I get something heavier? Any advice would be appreciated.

    John,
I would take a serious look at the Croix Tidemaster travel rods. They have a 7’6″ MF that is about as versatile as it gets.Other options are available too if you need a longer surf type application.

I would get a cheap inshore travel rod. Use the St croix to catch bait. Then use the inshore rod to go after bigger fish. Make sure to wash down the pole with fresh water and use corosion inhibitor or they wont last long.
    Have fun
