I have a 1987 Merc XR2 that the continuous temp alarm comes on as soon as the key is turned to on. This is happening in the garage with the engine completely cold. Looking through my Merc service manual it looks like it could be the “Engine Overheat Sensor.”
Am I right that that is the part below the #1 cylinder on left powerhead with a tan with blue stripe wire coming from it? The manual says to “disconnect the sensor and turn the key to on. If the alarm still sounds the sensor is faulty.” I did that and the alarm still comes on.
I’d REALLY appreciate hearing if I’m on the right track with this.
Thanks.
Dan
