My dad has an 07 Minn Kota Terrova with Ipilot. Its hooked up to a Hummingbird Basic color depthfinder. When the remote control or the foot pedal is used to start the motor, the depthfinder screen goes crazy until the motor is shut off. The depth finder is hooked to the starting battery not the trolling batteries, so thats not the problem. My question is, has anyone run across this problem or know of any solutions.

Either you mean a different year for the Terrova or you ment Auto Pilot.

And now on with the answers that you look for.

I’ve no issues here 101 Terrova I-Pilot wired to their own batteries and Lowrance LCM 15MT and HB 987 csi direct wired to the starting battery.

    Also never heard of it.

Father-in-law has an 80# Terrova hooked to a HB 586. I’m seeing that exact same thing. I’m thinking a choke kit may be in order. That or when the motor is running, there is a loose connection to the transducer that it’s shaking loose.

The last images are with the motor on and off.

Not sure of the exact year it was made but most likely one of the first made since the boat its on was a 2007, those pictures are exactly what were getting on ours. The screen is perfect until the motor turns on.

It is a very common interference issue that has plagued numerous fisherman. Humminbird sells (use to be free) a kit that is supposed to take care of it (with limited success) The problem usually stems from using the built in transducer on Minn Kota trolling motors. Works great for some, not so great for other. If you do a Google search on it you’ll find lots of troubleshooting tips and lots of angry folks who couldn’t get the issue resolved. Best advice I’ve seen is to forgo connecting to the US2 and strap the transducer to the outside of the motor housing.

As of last week it was still free. A buddy of mine had one sent to his house. It’s a power cord with some lind of noise filter in it. He hasn’t hooked it up yet.

I had some similar problems with a autopilot. I took the motor into a authorized Minnkota dealer and they said the motor itself needed an extra ground in the motor housing. Once they did this it took care of the issue. I am not sure if this would work for you, but it would be worth a visit to a Minnekota fixit shop.

Finally got the problem solved, had to add a ground wire from the trolling motor plug to a motor mounting bolt. After doing that all is well. Thanks to Rudy at R&R Sports in Clinton for the great service.
