    I have a 115 Optimax year 2007.
I have a single warning beep that goes on 1 minute after the motor has been running. Its not the start up beep or low oil warning.
I checked the manual and it states this might be the engine running on cold after start up. Whats does that mean?
It also tell me to have the dealer look at check it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IMHO, weak water pump. Very common with Opti’s (and other motors), rule of thumb is, change your water pump every year or so. Once you learn to do it yourself, it’s a breeze–right Tom!

Alarm tends to go off after idling for a period of time or idle speed due to not enough pressure being built up in the system.
check this out with the rest.

Agree with Doc. If its the constant alarm (Not the beep-beep-beep alarm) that is your overheat warning. Usually set to go off at about 160. You can watch your temp on smarcraft if you have the guage.

    Change impeller/water pump.

Is it just beeping once (as in not beep…beep…beep)? If it’s overheating, it would continue to beep.

    Thanks guys.

Here are some answers to your questions:

It only beeps once.Does not beep continually.

    No smartcraft guages.

    Amps seem to be 11-14.

I’ll look at the BBC site.

    Thanks,

I suspect its low voltage if your seeing 11 volts. These motors need some juice to get them going and don’t like low voltage. How does your current battery compare to the battery requirements of these Mercury Opti’s? A rating of at least 1000 MCA, 800 CCA, 180ah, or meet the 135-RC 25 Capacity Rating.

Let us know what you eventually find out.

I put a new 1000mca cranking battery in last month to power up the new humminbird.I direct wired the bird to the battery.
It kept blowing a fuse on the dash when I started the boat when the bird was on.So I direct wired it.
Can this be related? If so, why did the beep start a month later? Low Amp?

Called the Merc dealer in Shakopee. Said $300-$400 to diagnose. They said they had to hook it up to the computer.
I called Terry Huberty in Isle as I am on Mille Lacs every weekend.
He said he’d put a new water pump in for $180. Said that was probably the problem.I’ll bring it to him.
