I have a ground wire that came loose on my 2004 70 hp yamaha. Wondering if it is something I need to reconnect and, if so, where does it connect to.

    Thanks for any help!

Yes, you’ll definitely want to make sure that wire is attached. It completes the circuit.

If you can attach it the way it originally was, that would be best. If that’s not possible, then maybe you might need to rig it yourself. Possibly crimping it to another ring terminal and attaching it with a screw or self tapping screw in the same area. Just make sure it’s making a definite, solid connection and you’ll be fine.

Just curious, what circuit does it complete? This ground wire is on the outside of the motor? I am not mechanically inclined so I just trying to educate myself.

    Thanks, bhs

If it’s between the motor and motor mounting it’s to keep the tube where the motor turns from arcing and ruffing up the tube, my merc has grease fittings on there

Yup, what he said. Kinda like the main bonding jumper in your panel at home. It makes sure everything is connected and grounded the same way. Gotta have it.

Yes, it does have a grease fitting their as well. That end of the wire is still attached the other end looks like it broke off, but for the life of me I can’t see where to attach the dang thing.
