    Hollywood,

How long have you been using the MY-Wedge? Any problems?

    Thanks,

I have a 1994 Skeeter 1850D with a Yamaha Pro-V 150 hp outboard. I used a transom saver for the first 6 years but tired of having to repeatedly repaint my motor’s lower unit because of wear from the transom saver. I have been using a MY-Wedge Motor Support since early 2000 and “would not leave home without it!” I no longer have to keep repainting my motor. I highly support their product!

I just don’t understand how that takes the weight off the transom when you’re hitting bumps going down the road. Can someone try to sell me on this?

It doesnt “take” the weight off the transom. Its main purpose and the same purpose as the transom saver is to keep the motor from bouncing while going down the road, and also taking the pressure of the tilt rams. The transom saver can actually be worse for your boat if you do not have to boat strapped down REALLY tight. Hitting a bump will cause it to push against the boat when it bounces.

If using the my-wedge there is truely not much difference or harder on the motor/transom than going across the lake in rough water.

Both items will get the job done. Just depends on personal preference from my stand point.

Absolutely! If you have hydraulic steering also get the clips and the motor wont budge at all no matter what crappy mn or wi road you drive.

That is interesting that Yamaha doesn’t even use their own product.

I should clarify that I guess. The ones that yamaha sends with the boats are the ones in your first post. Most people know them as a My-Wedge so I guess thats what I call them. Its all made by the same company just a different name on the side of it.

Thanks Eric. That makes much more sense.

How does any transom saver that goes from the lower unit to the trailer under the motor “take weight off” the transom? Of course the answer is it can’t. The brace runs nearly perpendicular to the downward force (weight) of the motor on the transom. Not to mention this type of saver is made of thin walled tubing (some times actual conduit is used) rendering it unsuitable for supporting significant load even if the brace did run parallel to the downward force (up and down).

The last saver of this style I owned I bent to fit by placing my foot in the middle of the tube and pulled upward by hand on the end that would support the motor until I got the right angle. If I can do this by hand… there’s no way this type of saver is holding any significant portion of a large outboard that will often weigh between 400 & 600 lbs.

The purpose of a transom saver is to stop movement of the motor on the transom while the boat is trailered. An unsupported motor will jump violently with the lower unit kicking up and down with each bump. A wedge, transom saver… even a block of wood will accomplish this. Use whatever system works for you.

So I guess I am wondering if there is a simple yes or no answer. Will the my-wedge or yami product help preserve the like of the hydraulics of my main motor and kicker? Should I even worry about the kicker?

Thanks guys. Just trying to preventative.

Thanks guys. Looks like poor wording on my part. You meant what I said, right?

When I move from lake to lake (short distances), I often just use the transom lock on my Yamaha VMAX, and it seems pretty solid, and looks like it would keep it from bouncing. The more I think about it, I guess that and the wedge pretty much do the same thing.

Thanks for the info guys. James, you did a lot better seeling it to me than the guy I talked to at My-Wedge. Gives me something to think about.
