Last September we got my Dad an I Pilot for his PowerDrive V2. The purchase was made through Amherst Marine, the I Pilot didn’t work properly from the start and ultimately the Motor and IPilot went to Sportsman’s Repair in Mosinee. Where they found the remote to be defective and it was replaced. While on our annual trip to Devils Lake ND the I pilot began working intermittently. We isolated the issues to short of some sort in the cable from the top of the motor down to the base near the plug where the foot pedal would connect. To finish the trip we just reinstalled the auto pilot .
After returning from the trip we planned to take it back to Sportsman’s Repair but that outfit wasn’t taking any new repairs because the guy was going on vacation for 2-3 weeks. Amherst Marine says take it to a repair center. So it seemed like bringing it down here to Madison and taking it to Dorn was a good option. I called Dorn and was told to bring the I Pilot in. Now in talking with the folks at Dorn it sounds like the guy who does the repairs on the Minn Kota stuff is semi retired or getting out of the repair work and hasn’t taken a look at the unit yet going on two weeks. The folks working at Dorn are taking messages and trying to see what’s up but the repair guy isn’t returning calls and so far I haven’t been able to track him down when I am in the bait shop.
I am wondering if anyone here on the forum can recommend a good repair center?
Today I tried calling Minn Kota and got a young lady who clearly was looking to head out for the day and didn’t want to spend much time on the phone working with me to come up with a solution. I realize this is busy time of year for the repair folks, we have been trying to get this unit looked at for almost a month now. To be honest I am starting to lose my patience with the whole thing and starting to think it is time to start rattling cages by barking up the food chain at Minnkota.
If I have to I will but I am really hoping Minnkota service is better than what I am experiencing and that I just haven’t found the right contact point.
