2 Transducers cause problems?

    Hi guys,
Right now I have a Eagle Sonar/GPS combo at my center console which receives information from the transducer on the transom.

I have been thinking about putting a second transducer and a separate sonar unit up front on the Minn Kota trolling motor.

Question: Can both units operate at the same time, or will the signals from one transducer interfere with the operation of the other transducer?

The transducers would be clear at opposite ends of the boat, 21.5ft apart. In most of the water I run in, Im thinking the cones wouldnt even overlap.

Follow up: Any suggestions for a second unit? Someone suggested the Hummingbird Wide 3D to compliment my 2D unit, but I dont see many of those for sale. It would be nice to be able to move the second unit around; sometimes have it up at the trolling motor, sometimes have it back at the console to compliment my Eagle unit. Does anyone make a wireless unit?

    Thanks for your help!

    Dave,

I have an Eagle on my Consule w/the Transducer on the transom. I also have a hummingbird running off the bow mount trolling motor. I’ll run some tests w/it tomorrow and let you know what i find out.

    I wouldn’t imagine there would be problems…but we’ll see.

Dave, I have ran as many as 3 units at the same time without having them interfere with each other. Especially when the transducers are at opposite ends of the boats. As far as having mobility with your unit, check out Garmin. Thyey have an inexpensive 2nd mounting station for their units.

Soundn’t be any interference from the sonar signals that far apart. Guys run transom mount/bow mount ducers regularly w/o problems.

The Garmin 250 would be a good choice for the bow, in my opinion.

Don is right on there. I run 3 transducers on a daily basis. One Lowrance x-97 on the Minn Kota Maxxum bow mount motor, the next is a X-15 ducer thru hull at mid ship, and the rear one is a X-15 that runs off the rear transom of the boat. All the same frequency transducers without a problem.

Hope this helps you out. You should have no problem running one on the dash and one off the transom.

Dave if your setup is so you run the trolling motor and the boat from the same position you might want to think about using two ducers on one unit. I just set mine up this way. Just make sure the ducer and switch match the unit. I got all my stuff from LEI extras. Got it mounted and it works fine. If your unit is mounted on a swivel and can turn 180 degrees you might want to think about it. This way one unit and one set of settings. When we go out you will see what I mean. Jim

Thanks for the good info guys.

I have my Eagle unit on a RAM mount so I could turn in around to face the bow, but its at least 10’+ from the bow seat to the center console and thats a tough distance to make sense of a 5″ screen.

So….. what I was thinking was that when two guys are on the boat, it would be nice to have a second unit up front. Especially considering the bow transducer would be 20′ from the transom transducer and would be seeing a completely different area.

It would also be nice when hunting around for brushpiles, etc, to have both units back at the center console.

So, it looks like I’m going to have to compromise somehow (and probably just leave a second unit up on the bow).

Here is an interesting article about multiple sonars I found when I Googled the Hummingbird Wide sonar:

    Thanks!
    Dave
