End of the Marcum LX Digital Series?

Rapala.com has them basically 25% off right now, they did a similar sale when the LXI units were closed out months before the M series was released…I’ve been a big fan of the LX series (outside of the fact that the frequent software update promises were hardly met and likely abandoned now)

Curious what the next gen delivers?

    Still using a vx-1.

    It is 2d sonar…

The next version… Will be 2d sonar… Like the last 10 between.

Great and my Shuttle just took a crap after only being a year and 3 months old. Warranty is 1 yr and 30 days according to their email. And it’s 140.00 for the repair and return shipping.

I heard over xmas it will be more than simple 2D, but no real specifics. I’d like to be surprised and see that be true.

It’s a hard marketplace for small players. It doesn’t help that the marcum digitals look like $30 DVD players compared to the offerings put out by the big companies, let alone the functionality gap.

I’m trying not to chase the new shiny electronics anymore. I have a Helix 7 the first gen with gps and a navionics map card. On my 3rd season with it and I’m still learning some of the nuances. Friend of mine has the gen 2 and I really lusted after that for a couple weeks. Then I started looking at the Garmin Panoptix set up. Ugh. Then I walked into the Polaris dealer and bought the Otter Pro for my Ranger.

So I’m swearing off new electronics for a couple more years. It’s a game of catch up and you never will unless of course you have a money tree!

Two of my sons had Marcum LX7’s both had reliability problems. One has now switched to a FL28 and the other is using my Marcum Showdown which is my back up until he decides what he wants to buy.
So therefore my view of Marcum has not been very high. Not to mention they both had frustrations dealing with Marcum service. Mostly just trying to get them to respond.

Go to the website, add it to the cart to get 15% off, then type in Promo code FISH10 and BAM Marcum LX-7 for $570. Unless their is another way of getting 25% that I’m not aware of.

    Marcum hasn’t kept up…..

I wouldn’t even consider one if I was shopping. It’s like buying a basic 2007 truck for the same price as a loaded 2018.

For $650-$700 you can get a Garmin Echomap 73cv plus Ice Bundle.

    TOUCH SCREEN

    GPS

    CHIRP- even ice fishing

    Unlimited zoom ranges

Pre-loaded maps and 2 sd slot

Double duty- use it in the boat too.

Quick Draw Contours-make you own maps.

Wifi-updates and Active Captain app. (You can read your new text messages on you fish finder for Christ’s sake)

    Favorites Buttons

Ability to network with other Garmin Plus units.

Ability to add PANOPTIX now or later.

Down imaging with a basic boat transducer. Side imaging if you get an SV unit.

    Etc, etc.

    —————-

Or you can spend about the same amount of money on a Marcum that has sonar and sonar only…..no GPS….no touch screen….and no updates…..

    —————–

A Marcum LX-7 is a fish catching machine, don’t get me wrong…..but the price you pay for such limited features and use is ridiculous.

If they were $300 it would be a different story.

I do think the digital lx series are the best units for novice ice fisherman with its adjustible display. I will always keep mine for that exact purpose.

    …actually, 10% off 15% isn’t quite 25% off…LOL. I kid! That’s a pretty good deal!

I’ve tried all marcum’s and finally came to my senses when I realized I always reached for the VX-1. So dang simple and gets the job done every time. Suspended fish and the moveable zoom requires using an older LX-5. Hope i didn’t just jinx myself into a bad transducer… unreal the number of fails.

    LX-7 owner
have the lithium shuttle as well.
Have had a tons of problems getting it to read right. seems like every time you fish different depths or bottom hardness you spend 2-3 min messing with buttons to get it set, that’s if it can find its brains. fishing in shallow water with weeds… don’t even bother! I have always been a Marcum guy and I have not left yet but I envy the flx-28 guys for sure.. my buddy got a shuttle for his lx-6 last year and it has lost all its juice. lasts half as long as my new one on the lx-7 the batteries of the shuttles seem to be garbage! very unfortunate for $250 I have been a loyal Marcum guy for a long time but if my shuttle stops working just out of warranty and they do not make it right I will be DONE FOR GOOD with Marcum.

That is too bad. It seems like it has so much potential.

I got my lx7 less than a month ago and love it. As for changing the settings I rarely have to adjust anything other than sensitivity. So not sure what’s going on with yours. It’d be nice to see new things come out like panoptix to hopefully lower the price, but as of now, I can’t afford a $2k unit for ice fishing!

I bought the lx-7 w/shuttle at the ice show in 2017. Last February on a trip to Devils it crapped out on me. Had a H55 for backup. Got home and dropped it off. 2 days later it was delivered to my house all fixed up, under warranty. I guess the motherboard shorted and recked some other stuff also. Since then I have really liked it. I fished 3 days using the light for an hour each evening, on one charge. I hope it lasts me another 5+ years.
Sometimes things break, but I’ve always had very good service from Marcum.

my marcum mechanicals are over 7 years old and still ticking (lx5 and vx1p)

eventually i’ll be picking up a livescope but have a few things outside of fishing that need attention before that money gets spent.

i appreciate marcum because for a long period of time they have pushed this market incredibly when the market was strictly mechanical vex/marcum/humminbird.

I’ve fished with a number of guys with helix 5/7, garmin lcd boat finders with ice kits. I’m still not sold. these guys seem to have to fidget with it too much.

Man if Panoptix livescope was in my budget, or remotely close, I’d have it but not for a few years yet for this guy!
