I wanna make venison/pork hotdogs for the kids that are less like sausage. Anyone ever grind then put in food processor to turn into hotdog mush. I have a kitchen aid food processor just curious if it will work or just wreck food processor.

You’ll need to add fluid slowly or you’ll end up with a pile of stuff that looks like diaper filling and can’t be handled well enough to stuff. I’d teach the kids to chew and make a regular meat hot dog with the meat ground thru a 3mm plate.

How old is the child? I’d be leery of using venison in anything given to a child under the age of three.

Double grind from course to fine plate like anything else. If you throw it through the fine grind plate a 2nd time and stuff it right off of that it’s right where I want it. Still meat, not pink slime. If you want to throw in a kitchen aid mixer or even an elec hand mixer in a bowl to whip the grind to emulsify it’s great too. I just don’t think it makes it any better. I smoke a while and finish my dogs in hot water bath to finish temp.

2-3 and 6. They’ve been eating venison their whole lives and like the hotdogs I make now just like the cheap hotdogs better.

I think kids should be at least three or four before feeding them wild game simply because their young immune systems can get breached fairly easy. Nothing more than that and its strictly a person choice I made.

Our boys started on venison as soon as they could eat real food too.

The biggest threat is lead. Use non-toxic bullets or bonded bullets. Trim far and wide around shot up meat if using any bullet containing lead.

You can’t tell me that food raised in the wild, hunted by you, and processed by you is less healthy than food from a package out of a factory made who knows where with who knows what, and ingredient labels you can’t even pronounce. Just be a little extra careful and make sure there’s no fragments of bones, lead, etc.

Agreed with the above. Even the cases of food related issues with commercially sourced foods, are usually related to the handling of, rather than the food itself.

To each their own. My kids had peanut butter right away to and that’s a no no. I thought I read on here once that someones grand daughter got really sick and traced it back to venison. Anyway people can decide what ever they want about that. Now back to the ? at hand. Has anyone tried to make meat mush with a food processor.

I’ve used mine to “grind” chicken. Works best when frozen or partially frozen. I’d try it but take it easy.

He said his kids like the pureed style hot dogs better.

Giving kids common allergy foods (like peanuts, eggs, wheat, etc) early on, like 6 months old, highly decreases their chance of developing those allergies.

We pureed chicken, ground beef, and ground venison for our daughter when she was 6-10 months. Pretty simple and basically the same process that we used for all her fruits and vegetables. Cook the food, put it in the blender, and add water as needed to get the right consistency.

Is it the texture of the meat inside, or the casings on the outside?

The inside. Like I said they like the courser ground ones just wanna give them another option. That and I enjoy making the stuff so maybe I guess I wanna try something new also.

You need to ‘match the hatch’ and use lips and *ss holes for meat instead of real meat! Then it will be like the store bought ones.
