Trout season inside the BWCA is just around the corner, while there are still a few weeks left before the season opens outside of the wilderness border. Walleye have been hit or miss the last few weeks with some great days on the ice and then some days that leave you scratching your head. It has been a big fish year in Ely so far with many reports of 20-30 inch beastly Eyes coming through the ice. Big pike have been hot this year too and the numbers have up there! Jumbo perch have been filling in the daytime bite while the walleye are moving slow in the clear lakes and conveniently disappear when the walleye begin to move again. Crappies have been doing well on several different lakes, being mobile is the key all around. Depths have been changing so be sure to check in when you get here for the latest info!

Snow cover is light, but snowmobiles and dogsled groups are out and about. A few more inches of snow would be nice but on the upside you can drive a car almost anywhere on the lakes right now!
