What’s the opinions on the new all electronic registration in Wi. I am for it but I don’t think it should be all deer and essentially do away with the in person stations. I think the in person stations that will be open but will have computers to do the registering are going to be confusing for some of the “older” crowd, where as for those that can the ability for instant registration from a phone etc. is rather appealing.

My only concern now there is no more metal registration tag, and so a registered deer will look just like an unregistered deer unless your close enough to see the confirmation number on the bottom of the green tag.

Not a fan personally. I know it seems like a step backwards, they just recently started cutting back on doe tags, this seems to only counteract the system. Also if a guy wants mom, wife cousin, friend, whoever to tag there buck so they can still get that other one( currently illegal no party bowhunting) at least before they would have had to lie in public/possibly be reported while driving and registering deer. It could be I miss all the deer pics at your local stations.

I think it will be a lot easier for someone to illegally register a deer in another person’s name. Throw the deer in the truck out of site, drive home and have Momma or one of the kids register it. Go back hunting tomorrow. Just my opinion.

Just wondering how the system worked in Wis. Did someone actually look at your deer when you registered it? Or care weather it looked like you have been hunting?

I grew up hunting in MN in the 70’s when way fewer deer were taken. There were just a handful of registration stations per county. They were bait/gun shops and full-service gas stations and the people there actually looked at your deer. In recent times seemed as if every convenience stare in every small town was a registrations station. No one looked at your deer or cared that it looked like you were hunting, they just punched whatever info you gave them into their terminal. A person could have brought grandma to the station in her church clothes and had got “her” deer registered and it would probably not have been questioned. It had become a meaningless exercise.

Electronic registration has been great. No more trips to town to register your deer so you can get it skinned or cut up. I do think violators are going to violate and the in-person registration had become nothing more than an inconvenience for honest people.

We have registered our deer here in mn on line the last few years. Kinda slick not having to bring it in somewhere. No idea how they really keep track of what a person has shot. Guess its kinda on your honor. Wonder how the store owners feel about this. Brought a lot of people to there stores in the past. Then again they also had to take the time to look at the deer.

In the end Im happy with it. Deer goes in the truck, home and chopped up pretty quick. One less stop in that process.

I agree 100%, BUT, the laws only keep the honest people honest anyway. The poachers are still going to poach whether you have to bring it in for registration or not. It really is just making it more convenient for the honest guy. Now I also think a guy that is generally honest could be tempted with it being this easy.

Cripes, listen to me flip flopping my decision like a politician. I guess I really don’t know how I feel about it coffee coffee coffee

My 2 cents. I don’t think it really changes anything.

I look at it this way. I go out and shoot a deer in the morning and put my tag on it, we take it to the shop and hang it up. My dad also shoots one and he puts his tag on it. we take it to the shop and hang it up. The next morning we go take them down and register it.

There is really no difference in regards to someone having a chance to put a “mothers” tag on it. That would have to be done prior to them putting it in the shop, correct?

So unless I am not sure how people are doing things illegally I am not sure how this would change things, I don’t have my hunting clothes on when I go the next day? I am also not one that enjoy’s heading down town to drink a couple so personally I can avoid the whole trip.

I am curious though on how others see this so give me an example.

Crooks will find a way to be crooks either way. I like it as our local registration station is a bar in town that has a permanent stank of aged dog urine so not having to go in there doesn’t hurt my feelings any, and the less people I don’t want knowing what I shot, knowing what I shot, the better. Refer back to crooks being crooks as to why there are frequent patrons of that bar that I don’t want seeing the deer.
