In the process of finishing off a new Yetti shell. Just wondering if anyone has some input on whether or not to install outlet boxes or not for the receptacles or switches? If so did you use shallow boxes inside the wall or did you use another method? Thanks for any input!

See more and more of these in homes. Seems like a good idea.

Most phone cords and stuff have modular pieces so you can just plug the phone in anyway but it’s still not a bad idea. If you can get deep boxes in they are easier, small boxes get very tight if more than 2 wires go into or through them. I found some metal ones that were kind of in the middle between deep and shallow. I don’t know their real purpose but Menard’s had them in bulk bins so they must be common.

I figured it out. I used the 1-gang 1.25″ deep shallow boxes from Menards. Was able to fit all the wires inside with the outlet even with 3 different pairs of 14/2 coming in (took a lot of patience and wire management). Only problem was with the 1 GFCI outlet I installed, had to cut the back of the box out because the outlet basically ran flush to the back of the back without the wires even installed.

Best be carefully, you don’t want to turn that aluminum shell and frame into an electrified box isolated by tires, steping out could make you the conductor to ground. Double check your work.

Thanks for the concern but I’ve double and triple checked my work. Every outlet is surrounded in at least 2 inches of insulation before there is any metal so I’m not worried about making a big electric death box. Yettis come with 2 inches of insulation already and I installed another 3/4″ on top of that. I installed thr electrical boxes so they only go into the 3/4″ insulation I installed leaving 2 inches of solid foam board behind them.

Still have a lot of work left to do but getting closer every day. Once I’m done I’ll do a big write up and post pictures of my process. These forums are great resources for people to use as references for their own projects and I know I’ve searched all over here for ideas. Might as well do my part and keep the knowledge train moving.
