Give me your opinions on the ones you know about. even the conversion kits and drill you can get? I am kind of leaning towards the Ice Gator. Thank you in advance. Good luck on the ice. Stay safe.

The conversion ones work well for a few inches of ice and 6″ hole but for an 8″ hole and once it’s anywhere near a foot they’re pretty much overmatched. I think the new Strikemaster lithium lazer is going to be a gamechanger for electric augers.

Im actually starting to seriously consider a hand drill and clam drill plate adapter with my choice of auger bit. Buy a refurbish model drill w/extra batteries and I think one should be good.

I want to use a Milwaukee M18 fuel hammer drill 2604 or DeWalt 20V Max XR DCD995M2 on my choice of: 6″ lazer synthetic, 7″ lazer, or 8″ Nils or 8″ finbore. This setup may give the Ion and even the Strikemaster Lithium a run for it value/money.

    On 24″ ice 8″ auger

    On 3′ ice 8″ auger

Lawrence Luoma’s 7″ lazer on Mille Lacs:

I’ve been using an Ion for two seasons and have no complaints other than having to keep the batteries warm in order for them to be useable.

I’m intrigued by the K-Drill combined with a Milwaukee M18 Fuel. Total system weight is only 10 pounds.

That’s not true my buddy runs a nils 8″ and a bosch 36v cordless hammerdrill! It flat smokes any other battery operated unit factory made! Ice gator, kluge, ion, or strike master! It’s a sweet setup and lighter than the commercial made setups!

That’s a $700 drill, plus adapter, plus the nils auger bit sounds like a great affordable unit.

Well, if we’re talking about a Honda 4 stroke you could make margaritas. Sure beats the heck out of building a deck or hanging picture frames. grin

Touche to the man who has neither a deck nor pictures hanging on the wall. Honey, are you going to build that deck? meanwhile as Mr James prepares another margarita thinking to himself after one of these she will forget all about that deck.
