and newer technology years behind their competition.

    How do you figure?

Have you actually used or looked at any of their offerings?

    Pat,
My point was more that they were an auger company that built their brand by offering a variety of gas powered augers as well as hand augers and that the name Strikemaster became synonymous with high quality, reliable gas powered augers.

And now they make no more of those, and Strikemaster has gone the direction of new floating ice suits, drill type augers along with their lone 40V power auger.

Times have changed, I get it. I’m being nostalgic, I get that too.

My comment wasn’t intended to discredit their current products so much as I was lamenting or mourning what for many years was gas augers. sad

I’m sure they would love to continue to sell gas powered augers, the problem is that no-one wants to buy them.

Strikemaster has been making synthetic bits for a long time, primarily for their hand augers. The addition of a much lighter synthetic lazer style bit for powered augers made a lot of sense to me.

I’m sure you also know that Strikemaster has been in the ice suit business for a long time as well.

I still own 2 Lazer pro augers. They were a great auger and I loved them, but the majority of the ice fishing population wants electric. Sink or Swim.

Strikemaster has always been at the top of the offerings for both gas and electric augers and they are hardly “late to the party”. Remember the Big Volt? That was like 10 years ago. If anything they are trendsetters by discontinuing the petro line. They see the writing on the wall. Just like when they started selling more augers than bowling shoes back in the 70’s, and they quit selling those too.

Mechanical flashers are next on the chopping block….

I would agree with you on this but those vex fans obviously can’t dream of stepping up their arsenal. They probably still use the spoon hand auger too.

I totally agree, in fact I was one of the first to go out and buy the Electra Lazer when those first came out….retiring my Mag 2000. I debated selling the Mag 2000 a couple years ago, but for sure will keep it now if only for display in my man cave. smile

My reference “late to the party” was more directed to their new ice suit. I know they have been selling ice suits for some time, but their newest offering is now a featured product and my meaning was that the ice suit market is becoming saturated now with Striker Ice, Frabill, Clam, etc.

I bought a Striker Ice suit a couple years ago I think will last my lifetime.

And yes, I remember the Big Volt. The first electric with the major obstacle of having to be plugged into a power source.

And when did Strikemaster sell bowling shoes? crazy

I am going with a Dewalt 996 drill and the HT Nero 7″ hand Auger bit.

They include the adapter for a Drill and the offset hand crank with and extension for a very reasonable price. I think the 7″ is the perfect size.

Video vs the Kdrill. He should be using the Nero handle, no need for a frisbee or float on the bit if you hold the nero handle.
