Eelpout festival advice

Wife and I decided to head to eelpout this year and was looking for any advice as I plan. We will drop some rattle reels, and I might throw a hub in, but mostly we want to relax, read, and see the sights and tomfoolery. We are bringing a house and an atv to get around. Have a stove for coffee and some meals and a luggable loo for if the outhouse situation sucks.

Kind of wondering about security – do I need to triple lock everything or is it fairly safeish? Should we park near or far from the crowds?

Any stories or thoughts are appreciated.

Well, if this festival is equivalent to Sturgis for ice fishermen, then there is a strict code of honor among thieves. I myself would be a novice attendee, and would think that a Wisconsinite attending a northern Minnesota festival steeped in tradition that there would be a profound atmosphere of ethics and decorum.

The only reason I would triple lock my door is so someone that was overserved (just about everyone) didn’t stumble into my place accidently.
But its a lot of fun and people are friendly. Some of the “people haulers” that are towed behind atvs/sleds are worth the trip alone.

We went to Sturgis in 2008 and had a blast. Never worried at all about leaving our stuff at the tent, but we had paid a few hundred dollars to get into that campsite (totally worth it for the concerts/amenities) so it might have filtered out some people.

I hope that this is a similarly interesting experience.

Yes, for this reason. You’d be surprised how often this happens, particularly when there are a lot of “happy” people in somewhat unfamiliar surroundings and everything starts to look the same!

Bring rubber boots, cleats, and lots of extra socks. Looking at the forecast it will be a sloppy, watery mess like last year.

When I went theft was a big concern of mine, but after a few drinks that concern weaned. We left a lot of stuff outside and never had a problem, even cases of beer over night. I’m sure things get stolen, but it’s not as much of an issue as I thought.

It is a blast that all should experience at least once. I’ve only been once and it was enough for me. The guys I went with didn’t even bring fishing gear…That should about explain most peoples intentions with Pout Festival. But it’s a blast, just don’t expect things to move quickly with thousands of intoxicated individuals. Theft was a concern of mine as well but most everyone I met was happy, cheerful and surprisingly respectful.
