With eelpout fest this weekend what are some tried and true tactics to bring some of these critters topside?

I didn’t know that people actually fished during poutfest.

Fish them like you would walleye or perch, they are predators. Jigging spoons bounced off or near bottom. Dead stick as well with colorful or flashy jig. Have had quite a few hit sucker minnows on tip-ups close to bottom, if want to be more serious about the party than the fishing.

I’ve never done eelpout festival, but all the ones I’ve ever caught have been on jigging spoons and jigging raps all tipped with a bit of meat.

Isn’t Feb this time of the year these pout start going shallow bays and crossing points?
