The guitar heros are all dying off. He will always be a legend.
10 million copies sold on his first album
SUCKS – Glad I got to see him in with DLR back in the 2008 reunion show. As close to the original line-up as it was going to get for me. And at that point Dave could still kinda sing and move. Not so much for the more recent efforts.
Was really hoping rumors of his impending demise were exaggerated. 2020 scores another blow.
RIP to a legend. His music will live on far longer than any mortal man.
Everyone needs to go out to the garage with a few beers tonight and blare some Eddie in honor of the man
The Frankenstrat is one of the most iconic guitars in rock history. He was a pioneer and innovator.
Remi on jack fm was playing tunes and rehashing old stories. Honestly didn’t know half those songs were theirs. Was great listening for couple hours.
RIP
I may have blown the speakers in the tractor tonight. Wife just played his solo from the 5150 tour on YouTube. Amazing! GOAT. RIP.
Doesn’t get much better than Hot For Teacher. RIP.
To be honest I always thought his rhythm playing with associated fills were unmatched. I think of songs like “Jamie’s Crying”, “Dance the Night Away” or “Where have all the Good Times Gone”. There’s not a lot of lead playing on those songs. A high school friend of mine’s favorite EVH solo is from “I’ll Wait” off of 1984. That solo is extremely tame by EVH standards. My favorite VH song is “Mean Street” off the Fair Warning album. That’s the quintessential VH song that has the best of everything (lead, rhythm, dynamics).

Couldn’t agree more. I spent about 3 hours last night, drinking beers, surfing YouTube & jamming to some AMAZING late 70’s, early 80’s guitar solos! My ears are still ringing this morning. RIP Eddie
I was front and center, July 17, 1978 La Crosse Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium
It was a show I will never ever forget…
RIP Eddie !!!
Geez. First Road Warrior Animal, now Eddie Van Halen.
The world just got a lot less interesting……….
I need to dig up my old garage tapes. Have one recorded where every single song on VH 1 and VH 2 opens with Eruption!
Saw them on stage several times. The pure definition of “Party Like a Rock Star”!!
RIP Eddie.

Saw Van Halen twice in the early days in St Paul. They were great. Always appreciate the great guitar players.
RIP Eddie.
It’s becoming a dying breed. The good news is that the music will last forever.
RIP Eddie
I got yelled at last night for shaking the rafters. My wife is gone tonight so I just having to do it again. That 5150 clip B-man shared will sound great on the big speakers. RIP Eddie
Doesn’t get much better than Hot For Teacher. RIP.
That video was the highlights of the real MTV era.
Sit down,Waldo!
Not a huge 80’s metal or Van Halen fan, but Eddie is in the very top echelon of guitar players and died far too young. RIP. He’s right up there with Jimi, Clapton, Santana, Chuck Berry, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Gary Clark Jr. and some others I’m probably forgetting that just shred and you knew who they were almost immediately on hearing a few riffs.

Solid list. I would throw in Jimmy Page, David Gilmour and from the newer age John Frusciante and Tom Morello.
