If eating out and I see walleye on the menu I’ll order it more often than not for no other reason than I like walleye. I usually find restaurant walleye quite good.

very rarely to never………..i’ve seen how these fish are handled and taken care of up in canada!!!.
I’ll order it at a resort that cooks your catch. Nothing better than fresh walleye that you caught and don’t have to mess with the clean-up.
Never to rare to order from restaurants. Prefer to catch them myself. Caught alot of walleye on big winny and took them to Gosh Dam place and they cooked them up and it was terrific.
I feel the same way as most of you, but with cocktails. I can’t stand paying $12-15 for an old fashioned that is made with mediocre bourbon/rye and WAY too sweet. I do it much better at home. Whiskey sours too…
Hail no. I’ve only tried it on 2 occasions and my walleye is so much better that I won’t ever order it again.
I live in Nebraska and drive about 4.5 hours to Francis Case to fish. The cost isn’t the problem preventing me from ordering it; it’s strictly the taste. From what we spend on hotel, gas and Busch Light for a weekend to bring home 8 walleye, I try not to do the math on what our fish cost per pound
Not often. Every once in a while I’ll be tempted to order some fish tacos or a walleye sandwich. To be honest I find the taste of fresh water fish, whether caught myself or ordered at a restaurant, to be just ok. I dont go nuts for it like some others do. I’d rather have seafood or pasta or a burger or something else most of the time.
Also perch, northern pike and sunfish all taste better than walleye anyway in my book
I think that most of you are just spoiled by your own cooking. Yes some places are not as good but enjoy it anyhow. I have had some very good and some not so good, but I did still eat it and got filled up. This may sound dumb but I do sickly catch and release. Get all my fish from the store.
I don’t like nets in a lake so I don’t eat it unless I catch it.
.
Years ago I made this a general rule, as well as not spending my families hard earned money at establishments owned by those that are allowed to net the vary lakes my family likes to fish. My place of work sends me a couple times a year to Hugo for training. I frequent Jimmy’s food and drink in vandais heights while I’m there often. I have reasoned with myself that since the company is paying for it, it’s a grey area. I usually get the walleye sandwich one night, and walleye fingers the next night. It is very good IMHO.

x3. I will make an exception for a unique preparation hoping it’s good and I can steal it for my own kitchen. Birches on the Lake in Long Lake, MN makes a walleye cake eggs benedict that is very good. Most of the walleye I see on menu’s is beer battered which is usually 50% breading 50% fish and not very good imo. Also, I believe the majority of walleye on menu’s comes from Winnipeg and the Canadian side of Erie, both places I’d like to fish sometime…
I generally don’t order walleye either, but if there’s a unique preparation that I’m unlikely to replicate at home I’ll try it!
One example is Danny’s Bar and Grille, which is the restaurant attached to Stoneridge Golf Course in Stillwater. They do a Cherry, maple, pecan crusted walleye that’s phenomenal!
The other exception is every now and then on Lake of the Woods, we’ll bring our caught/cleaned walleye into Arnesen’s and have them fry it up, they do a good job with it!
Nothing beats a fresh walleye sandwich that we catch & clean ourselves but…. I do have to say, the Green Mill makes a hell of a walleye sandwich. Even my wife will eat it !
Axels bonfire had a almond crusted walleye dinner that was incredible. Sadly the one in Prior Lake closed.
