    “Now again” eat beaver…

For some stupid reason in 2024 our outstanding politicians made it illegal to eat nuisance beavers, like we don’t have other things to worry about???

My cousin is big into trapping, and beaver is his favorite meat. He grinds them up and makes beaver burgers. Seriously.

I’ve never tried actual beaver burgers before, but I’ve had a couple raw beavers leave a bad taste in my mouth when I was younger jester

The same guy that brought to make it illegal is now trying to make it legal. He should be charged for frivolous use of tax dollars.

Slippery, the famous proprietor of the namesake Slippery’s Bar in Wabasha used to roast a beaver every year for the opening day of duck season. He would slow roast it, shred it, and set it out in a warmer at the end of the bar with buns, BBQ sauce, etc and with a help yourself sign.

It would all disappear. Several times, my dad was there and out-of-towner sports would ask Slippery what it was. He’d always tell them it was beaver and they’d laugh it off and not believe him and just keep on eating it. “That’s a good one Slippery, you really had me going for a second there!”

He (Hauschild) said it was a slippery mistake slid in in the middle of the night. If we didnt know he had a sense of humor last year we sure do now.

I read the article last night. Dumbest thing is that eating a legally trapped or shot nuisance beaver was illegal, while eating a legally seasonal trapped beaver was legal. You can’t make sense of it. Because it was nuisance it needs to be thrown out…..

So what makes a beaver a nuisance? Loud music? Standing outside a bar or loitering?

Those beavers outside a bar chain smoking camel lights on their 4th long Island with at least 4 piercings in one ear should definitely not be eaten.

Dick Kaveneau [sp] was a character. Never without a cigar in his mouth. As far as anglers went, he was one of the best. I spent a few early mornings in his boat with him and when it came to putting 10 pound or better walleyes in the net during the warm months he was perhaps the best.

John Husar, long time outdoors writer in Chicago, claimed squirrel was delicious. He offered all sorts of recipes. I never tried it.

Is it wrong to use seasoning on the Beaver? Salt, pepper, Lawry’s…. Or maybe some sweeteners like sugar, caramel drizzle, or reddi whip? coffee
