Gregg, please clarify what is your target species (walleye, smallmouth, or muskie). If its walleye, head out to the mud or deep gravel and pull lead core or spinners. The bite is extremely tough right now because the water is so warm.

Says east side walleyes in the title……
The mud and deep gravel have fish but the bite out there has been tough. I’ve had better luck staying closer to shore lately. Deep rocks in 15-20. Even shallower if it’s windy or cloudy.
Trolling cranks, jig and plastic, jig and crawler, or bobber with leech or crawler.

I’ve always had luck in August fishing the shallow rocks on the east side. 10-15ft, slip bobber and leech. It’s mostly an early morning, night/evening bite. Good luck!

Fishers FB page states they were catching them in 5-7fow last week I believe. Go and look at there post history and find it.

I’ve been hearing jumbo leeches are all but gone with only some small panfish leeches still available.

Think I’m going to try some small suckers on the west side.

Maybe mix things up a bit too, pitch for smallmouth a bit and troll for muskie…maybe? smirk

Last week we had steady action trolling crawfish colored crankbaits in 12-15’ rocks. Hawkbill, Lakeside, and Agate Reef all had fish on them. We picked up some nice Smallmouth as well. Good luck.

The shallow rocks were on fire last night on the south east side. 12′ and less pulling perch colored cranks. Both smallies and walleye. We had 3 or 4 doubles last night.

Mud bite has been slow, but I am heading back out there in a minute. waytogo

Any updates on the East side? I will heading out of Liberty Beach on Saturday unless I am talked into heading to the mud.

I wasn’t at the lake last weekend, but I am starting tomorrow on the shallow rocks 6-15′ of water pulling cranks. I might spend a little time mid day on the mud or in the basin, but my money is on shallower rocks.

nice to see some newer faces on this thread, keep reporting back what you find. I’d search with a crawfish colored hornet and try to figure out a pattern, anchor up for the evening bite a bit shallower, good luck.

Don’t go to the mud. We did well last weekend in 32-35 off the reefs. Drive around a bit until your marking them before fishing. they are much closer to the reefs than the mud right now. Good luck.
