I’m going up this weekend with my 7 yr old son. We have a sleeper rented out of Agate Bay and we are excited. Does anyone have any recent reports of what is working? Otherwise, will share the report when we are back.

We did good this last weekend with suckers on a plain red hook, Shiners if you can find them (had a buddy with some leftovers, got eaten quick) or fatheads on a smaller demon jig. We were in 26′ of water, bottom of a point where it transitions from rock to muddy gravel. The weather is shaping up to be a nice weekend. I’m planning on spending Saturday out with the kids with a spread of Tip-Ups out! Good luck to ya!

THanks IceNEyes. I will look around for shiners before we go. Agree the weather looks great, I plan to bring the football and some of his toy trucks and things for additional entertainment.

With the tip-ups….. do you usually go shallower with those looking for cruising active fish? Or just a way to get a bigger spread. He’s never done a tip up before so thinking I will do a couple of those also.

Where I have my skid house we do pretty good from 4pm-8am. So, during the day(10a-2p) we go out to deeper water (28-30′) away from the crowds & throw a spread out. Most days we do pretty well. But I do think its worth putting them out around your house too just to cover more area. Tip-Ups can be a blast, especially with kids!

So we got up there about 1pm on Sunday. Had fun, my son thought it was great. We were in about 26-27 ft of water off the reef. Did a tip up for a while, had one missed flag with it looked like teeth marks on the sucker minnow. Nothing else daytime, in fact we didn’t get our first fish until about 9:45pm. Had a little flurry of action until about 11:30, caught two fish and missed two or three. All the action came on fatheads, they didn’t want anything to do with the suckers. Caught another one at 6am on the rattle wheel.

All in all a good time and fun experience for my son.

    Nice!!

I think your fish catching out there sounds about average. Sometimes expectations get a little overblown on Mille Lacs but what you had is usually what it is.

Better yet was the time you had with your son. Fish come and go, but you’ll never have the exact same moments as you had on this trip. waytogo
